Utada Hikaru (宇多田 ヒカル) is one of my most favourite Japanese singers.  She’s a very talented musician, writing most of her songs.  I first learned about her when I heard her song First Love.  This beautiful ballad has become synonymous with her.  Come Back To Me is one of her English songs.  I absolutely love the melody and the chorus just gets stuck into your head.  I’m not sure about most of its lyrics, though.  Nevertheless, Utada Hikaru is gorgeous in this music video.  Enjoy!

  1. I like the song! but I don’t like the MV as much. It didn’t feel like they were ex-couples. Tbh, this is the first time I’ve seen Utada Hikaru in an MV. She’s really pretty and her voice is lovely. Her English is very audible 🙂 Thanks for sharing!

    1. Me, too. Well, the man in the mv is forgettable. Let’s just focus on Utada Hikaru. 😉
Yes, I think this is my favourite look of hers. She’s beautiful here. Well, she’s fluent in English as she’s technically a Japanese-American, like Ito Yuna. Two of some of my favourite Japanese singers.

      1. That’s more convenient than relying on another lyricist’s own interpretation of her song. At least, even though some of the essence is lost during translation, the singer who does the translation can actually choose what she wants to tell people through her song.

      2. Yes, you’re right. However, I find her translations too literal sometimes. I think I watched a show from NHK before where they featured Utada Hikaru. She says that sometimes, she writes her songs in English and then translates them in Japanese. Then the song is released in Japanese only.
