I just adore the love team of Mogami Kyouko & Tsuruga Ren from one of my favourite shoujo series Skip Beat! (スキップ・ビート!) by Nakamura Yoshiki-sensei (仲村佳樹). Their relationship is very cute, innocent (too innocent sometimes, I daresay), and makes me go doki-doki. Ｏ(≧▽≦)Ｏ
There are times when I feel impatient about the progress of their relationship. I want them to admit their love for each other ALREADY! However, when I think about it more carefully, I realize that the series would become dull, or worse become stagnant, when they finally become a couple. I rather enjoy the “almost” scenes, where they’re doing everything they can to hold on to their passions while appearing nonchalant to each other. So adorable!
Lately, however, I’m feeling annoyed with Ren about continuing to play his alter-ego, “Corn the fairy prince”. Although I love the progress Ren as Corn made with Kyouko in Guam (they finally kissed! Kyaaaaaaah!), I can’t help shaking my head because I’d rather he kissed her as his true self. Oh well. And Kyouko? I understand that even though you’re fierce, you’re still also extremely innocent–that’s what I admire about you–but seriously? You believe that this person who looks & sounds like Tsuruga Ren is Fairy Prince Corn only using the face & voice of Ren to communicate with you? Tsk tsk tsk.
I know that this is shoujo manga, so this kind of unbelievable developments should be expected, but still. . .I think that the latest chapters aren’t on par with the earlier ones. The pace has become slow, and I don’t mean the chapter releases, but the story development. It’s good that Kyouko and Ren already kissed, albeit it was Ren acting as Corn. Oh well.
So even though I’m not as excited about waiting the latest chapter releases as before, I’m still looking forward to learn how these 2 lovebirds’ relationship will progress. I just hope that Nakamura-sensei won’t disappoint. I try not to expect too much, so I won’t be disappointed, but well. . .that’s easier said than done since Skip Beat! is a favourite.
Now you know that Kyouko and Ren love team is my favourite. . .for now, at least. I’m a bit dissatisfied with the latest chapters, but I can always re-read the earlier ones to keep my interest in the series alive. Overall, I like the characters of both Kyouko and Ren, even though they are totally unbelievable if you imagine them in real life. But the good news is. . .this is MANGA! Nakamura-sensei has done a good job in setting up the plot, so that we suspend our judgment and believe that Kyouko is the type of person who believes in magic and that Ren is such an excellent actor that he’s able to deceive Kyouko.
I know that this is an “Anime Challenge”, yet I’m talking about a manga. Well, there’s an anime adaptation, so it counts. It’s a good adaptation, but I still prefer the manga. Besides, they only adapted the earliest part, and as far as I know, they have no plans on adapting the rest. Too bad. Now I wonder what’s going to happen to these 2 next. Hmmmm. . . .
