Hidden & Innocent Love of Kyouko & Ren

< Day 7 | Day 9 >
Day 8: Favourite Anime Couple

I just adore the love team of Mogami Kyouko & Tsuruga Ren from one of my favourite shoujo series Skip Beat! (スキップ・ビート!) by Nakamura Yoshiki-sensei (仲村佳樹).  Their relationship is very cute, innocent (too innocent sometimes, I daresay), and makes me go doki-doki.  O(≧▽≦)O

skip beat-kyoko-and-ren-kiss
Kyaaaaaaaaaaaah!!!! Oh, be still my heart! ☆*:.。. o(≧▽≦)o .。.:*☆

There are times when I feel impatient about the progress of their relationship.  I want them to admit their love for each other ALREADY!  However, when I think about it more carefully, I realize that the series would become dull, or worse become stagnant, when they finally become a couple.  I rather enjoy the “almost” scenes, where they’re doing everything they can to hold on to their passions while appearing nonchalant to each other.  So adorable!

Lately, however, I’m feeling annoyed with Ren about continuing to play his alter-ego, “Corn the fairy prince”.  Although I love the progress Ren as Corn made with Kyouko in Guam (they finally kissed! Kyaaaaaaah!), I can’t help shaking my head because I’d rather he kissed her as his true self.  Oh well.  And Kyouko?  I understand that even though you’re fierce, you’re still also extremely innocent–that’s what I admire about you–but seriously?  You believe that this person who looks & sounds like Tsuruga Ren is Fairy Prince Corn only using the face & voice of Ren to communicate with you?  Tsk tsk tsk.

I know that this is shoujo manga, so this kind of unbelievable developments should be expected, but still. . .I think that the latest chapters aren’t on par with the earlier ones.  The pace has become slow, and I don’t mean the chapter releases, but the story development.  It’s good that Kyouko and Ren already kissed, albeit it was Ren acting as Corn.  Oh well.

So even though I’m not as excited about waiting the latest chapter releases as before, I’m still looking forward to learn how these 2 lovebirds’ relationship will progress.  I just hope that Nakamura-sensei won’t disappoint.  I try not to expect too much, so I won’t be disappointed, but well. . .that’s easier said than done since Skip Beat! is a favourite.

Now you know that Kyouko and Ren love team is my favourite. . .for now, at least.  I’m a bit dissatisfied with the latest chapters, but I can always re-read the earlier ones to keep my interest in the series alive.  Overall, I like the characters of both Kyouko and Ren, even though they are totally unbelievable if you imagine them in real life.  But the good news is. . .this is MANGA!  Nakamura-sensei has done a good job in setting up the plot, so that we suspend our judgment and believe that Kyouko is the type of person who believes in magic and that Ren is such an excellent actor that he’s able to deceive Kyouko.

I know that this is an “Anime Challenge”, yet I’m talking about a manga.  Well, there’s an anime adaptation, so it counts.  It’s a good adaptation, but I still prefer the manga.  Besides, they only adapted the earliest part, and as far as I know, they have no plans on adapting the rest.  Too bad.  Now I wonder what’s going to happen to these 2 next.  Hmmmm. . . .

      2. I agree with Horikata Maki. She looks like a good choice to most shoujo characters like Kyouko. I’m not very particular about which actress or actor plays a character from any adaptation. Besides I’m not as well-versed in J-Drama unlike in anime. However, I think Miura Haruma will be good for either Ren or Shou.

  2. I used to be obsessed with SB, but the slow pace really turned me off. In case you haven’t noticed, from Valentines Day where Ren gets his gift of goblet with jelly in it and Kyouko gets a peck on the cheek to the chapter just before their Guam gig ( White Day ) , is only one month ? And the series since the beginning is barely one year ? I’ve been reading this for 8 years, and I think I’ve reached the limit of my patience. And I hate that Kyouko still believes in fairy tales. I mean, she believes Ren/Corn is a king who flew away to nevernever land and now thinks Corn has possessed Ren. Really ? Really ? Ren should re-consider her feelings for Kyouko. Something is loose in Kyouko’s head. That’s what I think.

    1. Ahaha. I totally understand. I’ve stopped reading it, too. . .for now. I’m sure I’ll take it up again someday. I think because the manga is popular, they’re trying to drag out the story. I would rather read a shorter manga with an amazing ending that you won’t easily forget, rather than a looooong manga that started strongly but became repetitive and dull as more chapters are published.

  3. ah, i love this manga, i love these two~ I’ve lost my place a couple times already and had to reread big portions but I still love it! That part with the kiss was so hilarious, the way she was acting so that it wouldn’t count as a kiss xDDD and right now with the mom!

    1. High-five. It’s a romantic and hilarious manga. I always enjoy reading it. I’m not reading it right now, but I have a feeling that I’ll also reread some of the earlier chapters. Anyway, thanks for dropping by. Keep on reading manga. Cheers!

    1. Yes, I highly recommend it for a shoujo read. The female protagonist is strong. Perhaps blog something about it when you finally read it? I want to know your thoughts about it. Cheers!

  4. I feel the same way. I use to look forward to the release day, but lately I haven’t been feeling the same way and now I’m two chapters behind and don’t really feel like catching up.

The anime adaption is great and the voice actress for Kyouko was on point. They just ended everything at a really bad place that made you feel like something was coming, only nothing did.

    1. Exactly! Although I like that the “relationship” between Kyoko & Ren are developing further in the latest chapters, the pace is just a little too slow for my taste.

Indeed, the anime adaptation is great. I just wish that they a second season will be made, although I doubt it. Perhaps in the future. . .Here’s to hoping.
