May J. Lets It Go With “ARI NO MAMA DE”

Rating: 😀 😀 🙂 (2 & 1/2 grins)

Last week, I featured the Japanese rendition of Disney hit animated film Frozen’s “Let It Go”, “ありのままで” (Ari No Mama De), performed by Matsu Takako (松たか子) in the film [アナと雪の女王 (Ana to Yuki no Jo-ou/Ana & the Snow Queen) in Japanese].

This week, I’m featuring May J‘s rendition of Demi Lovato’s version of “Let It Go”.  Here is May J. performing “ありのままで” (Ari no Mama De).

I like May J.’s version, but I think I prefer Demi Lovato’s.  I’m not sure how to explain it, but I think that May J.’s version has less impact?  Hmmmm. . . .  Nevertheless, I still think that Matsu Takako did a wonderful job in the Japanese version of the film.

How about you?  Which do you think is better?

  1. This May J. somehow doesnt relate well to the lyrics she’s singing (assuming they are more or less the same as the English counterpart), in accentuation and gestures. She mostly focusses on her singing (stand-alone), in terms of achieving a little different rendition.

My personal favourite is the original movie version by Idina Menzel. Demi Lovato’s version is kinda over-powering.

    1. Yes, you’re right. That’s probably what my real impression of May J’s version that I can’t quite put my finger on. Thanks! Indeed, I think that May J. is focusing on her singing more than the lyrics. The lyrics are more or less similar but not a direct translation of the original English.

I like Idina Menzel’s version, too, but I like Demi Lovato’s version as well. Thanks for dropping by. Cheers!
