ONE PIECE Life Lesson: Aim at the Light of Your Dreams

Rating:  😀 😀 😀 (3 out of 5 grins)

Hikari e (ヒカリへ/To the Light) by The Babystars is the third opening theme song of my #1 favourite anime ONE PIECE.  This is the theme song used in episodes 116-118.  This particular opening theme is quite the spoiler because it features Nico Robin running together with the rest of the Straw Hats, when she was still technically an enemy in the show.

Like Believe and We Are!I think that Hikari e is a very ONE PIECE-like theme song.  It just reflects what the show is all about–searching and aiming for your dreams beyond the horizon, and discovering your strengths that you didn’t know you had before.

I also like the melody; it’s quite catchy, although not as catchy as my ultimate OP theme song, We Are!  I also like how The Babystars performed the song.  The main vocalist sings like he’s my friend, and I’m quite comfortable listening to him singing Hikari e during my downtimes.

Overall, Hikari e by The Babystars is a good OP song, although not that great.  It’s a feel good music that reminds me of ONE PIECE whenever I hear it.

What’s your favourite ONE PIECE song?

  1. Loooove One Piece intros/outros! They’re so fitting for the story. Their character songs are always great fun, too. (We really need more exposure to character songs in the U.S.) I love the Mugiwara’s version of We Are! as well as all of the songs TVXQ did for the show.

    1. Oh my gosh. Me, too! I love the Mugiwara’s version of “We Are!” DBSK’s rendition is good, too. More modern and pop, but my favourite’s still the Mugiwara version. Tanaka Mayumi, Luffy’s seiyuu, has an amazing voice, but Zoro’s part is my favourite.

      1. Yes! Absolutely.

And oh, Yamaguchi Yuriko’s character song for Nico Robin is really good, too. I also heard Trafalgar Law’s “Dr. Heart Stealer” but I didn’t like it that much. Although if you read through the comments, most of them are swooning females who says “my ovaries just burst”, or if they’re swooning guys, “I wish I have ovaries to be burst by this sexy song” or something like that. Haha!

      2. Too funny. I actually haven’t heard Law’s character song yet. I’ll have to look into that, although I doubt I’ll swoon. 🙂 Love Robin’s song–for that matter, I just love Robin’s character as a whole. I feel like it really benefits the Mugiwaras to have a more mature female in their midst.

      3. Listen to it. I don’t like it very much, so I don’t really get why the comments are acting like obsessed fan girls but perhaps that’s because they like the character of Law so much or maybe they’re fans of the seiyuu Kamiya Hiroshi. Hmmm.

I agree with you. She’s like the mother figure in the series, albeit a mother that lets her children run wild all over the place.

    1. Me, too. Hikari is not my #1 favourite OP theme song, but it’s certainly a song that I immediately associate with ONE PIECE whenever I hear it.

Ugh. I don’t even want to remember how 4Kids butchered a great series like ONE PIECE.

      1. I know, right? But I think that it’s ok if they specify right from the start that it’s not really “appropriate” for kids. Then teens & up can watch it without any problems. I don’t watch that much English dub versions of anime, but I check them out especially if I read good reviews about it. So far, I think Funimation is doing a great job on OP, unlike 4Kids.
