Day 30:  An Anime You Wish Never Ended and Continued On

I have many anime titles that I wish never ended and continued on, but since I just watched this title recently, the anime that I wish never ended and continued on (for now) is Hakkenden:  Tōhō Hakken Ibun (Eight Dogs of the East) / [ (八犬伝 ―東方八犬異聞―].

This anime was in my ultra-long “to watch” list for quite some time now.  It was only recently that I rolled my sleeves and finally tackled some of the titles from my “to watch” list and Hakkenden was one of them.  I’m so glad that I watched it.

First of all, Hakkenden includes some of my favourite seiyuu in its cast.  I was fangirling and squealing at the same time as I watched the anime.  It’s like a convention of my favourite seiyuu, and I felt like I’ve eaten the yummiest chocolate sundae after each episode.  Yum!

I especially like Okamoto Nobuhiko’s (岡本 信彦) portrayal of Murasame.  It reminds me strongly of his other role in Bakuman as Nizuma Eiji.  I love the way he says “Roger”.  So cute!  Of course I adore the rest of the seiyuu in the cast, but I have a feeling that this post will end up several pages long if I mention each of them one by one, so I’ll just settle for Okamoto Nobuhiko’s performance for now.

Second of all, Hakkenden is filled with delicious bishounen.  Aw, be still my heart.  It’s so difficult to decide who’s my favourite bishie, but I think my 3 most favourite (in no particular order) are Shino played by Kakihara Tetsuya, Rio played by Kamiya Hiroshi, and Kaname played by Namikawa Daisuke.

And finally, the hint of shounen-ai between the protagonist Shino and the rest of the characters is enough to sky-rocket my blood pressure.  I didn’t care too much about the story (it’s very typical, anyway), but I cared deeply about the development of relationships between the characters.  This is why I WANT MORE!!!

I doubt that there is going to be more seasons in the near future, but I’m an optimistic sort of person, so I’ll just hope for the best.  Hakkenden isn’t near to having the best story that I’ve ever watched in an anime, but I enjoyed it immensely with its harem of mouth-watering bishounen and excellent cast of seiyuu.

Now you know that Hakkenden is the anime that I wish never ended and continued on (for now, at least).  What’s yours?

  1. Oran Academy Host Club – I’ve read all the manga and know they can easily continue the anime for another season, but it just stops at one. Angel Beats is another one that I would love to have seen continued, or ended in a different way. I think any anime with a single season is too short 😉

    1. I agree with you. There are so many anime series that stops at just one season, while the manga is still ongoing or already finished. I think that’s one of the downsides of the anime industry. It’s dictated by the budget and popularity. If it’s not popular enough or there’s not enough budget to back it up, even if there’s more to adapt from the manga, they’ll not create another anime season. How sad.

  2. BTOOOM! is a show that I wish they continued. The ending was such a cliff hanger and had so much potential for at least one more season. 😢

    1. There are so many series that makes you want to wish for more seasons. BTOOOM!’s manga is still ongoing, so at least you can read even if there’s no more anime seasons.

  3. Sounds like something I’ll have to check for no particular reason. I’m not even into bishounen but this series strikes me as fun. Oh, a show that I wish never ended was the entire Railgun franchise, but technically they’re still making more. For just one series, I’d like to see more of The Devil is a Part-Timer!

    1. There’s no harm in checking it out. Like I said in my posts, it doesn’t have the best story out there, but it’s entertaining. I haven’t watched those series yet, but they’re on my ultra-long “to-watch” list. If they’re still making more, then you’ll have lots to look forward to (lucky you).

Anyway, thanks for dropping by. Keep on blogging. Cheers!
