Welcome to the Beautiful & Colourful World of KARNEVAL! Hot Guys Alert!

During the spring, I had this phase where I only watched anime with hot guys.  As a result, I wrote some posts about bishounen like “My Love Affair With Reverse Harem Series”, “More Hakkenden Bishounen, Please!” and “Ogling Hot Demons in Makai Ouji”.

Continuing on this theme of hot guys, I want to talk about another bishounen-filled series titled Karneval (カーニヴァル) by Mikanagi Touya (御巫桃也).  The anime is only 13-episodes long, so you don’t have to invest too much time watching it.  It seems that the manga is still ongoing, but I haven’t read it yet.  Perhaps someday.

As you can already see from this image, it’s filled not only with bishounen but with bishoujo, as well.  But for the sake of my fujoshi heart, I’ll be focusing on the hot guys.

The first thing I immediately noticed, and I bet you will too, was the beautiful, beautiful, BEAUTIFUL art style and animation.  The colours just pop, and the pastel hues are just a treat for the eyes.  I don’t know much about animation lingo and technicalities, but I thought the animation was pretty smooth and just simply beautiful.

Let’s not forget the character designs of the hot guys.  My two most favourite are Gareki and Yogi, but I can’t choose between them.  Both of them are so cute.  Gareki is cute because of his tsundere qualities, while Yogi is cute because he’s a hot, grown man who acts like a playful kid.  Who can resist these two?

Gareki and Yogi are not the only hot guys.  Heck, the whole series is filled with them!  If you’re into bishounen like I proudly am, I guarantee that you’ll lose a few brain cells ogling these hot guys.

Another exciting thing is that Karneval has an amazing cast of seiyuu.  My gosh.  It’s filled with some of my favourite seiyuu.  Gareki is voiced by Kamiya Hiroshi (神谷 浩史) and Yogi is voiced by Miyano Mamoru (宮野 真守).  Ono Daisuke (小野 大輔), Hirakawa Daisuke (平川 大輔), Nakamura Yuuichi (中村 悠一), Okamoto Nobuhiko (岡本 信彦), Suwabe Jun’ichi (諏訪部 順一), and Maeno Tomoaki (前野 智昭) are also included in the cast.  Awesome, right?  What more do you want?  For just this amazing cast voicing these hot characters alone, I don’t think I care too much about the story at all.

But that’s not to say that I don’t care about the story.  Karneval’s story is good, but not impressive.  The mystery aspect of it is entertaining, but average.  The fight scenes are good, too; but compared to pure shounen series, the fight scenes in Karneval focus more on the character’s graceful movements rather than on the fights themselves.  There are also many aspects of the story that I find confusing, BUT WHO CARES?

Like I said, just looking at the hot guys and the beautiful animation, and also listening to the amazing cast of seiyuu, I already lost a few brain cells that I easily forgave the story’s lack of depth.

So should you watch Karneval or not?  It depends.  The story is okay, but I can recommend a bunch of other anime series that are much better than this.  I don’t recommend this series if you’re looking for an anime that’ll blow your mind, but if you have some extra time, watch this.  I think that for its beautiful animation alone, watching Karneval is worth it.  Besides, it’s only 13-episodes long.  Not to mention that the characters are beautifully-designed and the seiyuu cast is amazing.

Overall, Karneval is entertaining.  It’s not the best, but its beautiful animation, amazing seiyuu cast, and hot, hot, HOT characters make up for its not-so-impressive story.  Its not an anime that I’m enthusiastic of watching again, but it’s memorable enough not to make me forget about it.

    1. You said it right. The storyline could use some work, but I barely noticed it since I was busy ogling the hot guys. Even the girls are hot, so yeah. Definitely lost a few brain cells watching this series. Freaking hot.
