“ONE PIECE” Will Not Be The Same Without “We Are!”

30-DAY SONG CHALLENGE

Day 1: A Song That Makes You Happy

This is an easy one.  Since my #1 favourite series of all time is ONE PIECE by Oda Eiichiro (尾田栄一郎), it’s first ever theme song We Are! by Kitadani Hiroshi (北谷 洋) never fails to make me happy.

As I mentioned before in a previous post titled “We Are! The Ultimate ONE PIECE Theme Song”, I consider this song the ONE PIECE theme song.  Just play this song, and I’ll immediately shut up and have this goofy grin plastered all over my face.  That’s how much this song makes me happy.

What’s more, We Are! has 2 other versions that I absolute adore, as I adore the original version by Kitadani Hiroshi.  Below is the Straw Hat Version:

The Straw Hat Version is the one that makes me the happiest among the 3 versions of this song.  I love it because it’s sung by the seiyuu of the Mugiwara no Ichimi.  I love it!  What’s not to love?

The third one is a remix version sung by Korean pop group Tōhōshinki (東方神起), more known as DBSK.  They’re also known as TVXQ, which is so confusing for me. . .but anyway, they sang more theme songs for OP in later episodes, in addition to the remix version of We Are!.  Good for them.

I like this remix version because those Tōhōshinki or DBSK or TVXQ or whatever they’re called have hot, hot, HOT voices!  Don’t you agree?  I think that their version appeals greatly to the female and younger demographic of the series’ fan base.

I believe that the ONE PIECE anime just won’t be the same if We Are! isn’t its first theme song.  I think that it’s the most appropriate, most fitting, and most perfect theme song for this pirate adventure series.

But if you ask me which of these 3 versions is my favourite. . .well, that’s quite a difficult question.  The original version by Kitadani Hiroshi will always have a special place in my heart because it’s the version that I identify as the ultimate ONE PIECE theme song.  However, I love, love, LOVE the Straw Hat version because it feels more personal to fans like me who are so emotionally invested in the struggles and triumphs of the Straw Hats.  As for the remix version, I like it but I think it’s too idol-ish for me, if you know what I mean.

Now you know that the theme song of ONE PIECE, We are!, is a song that makes me very happy whenever I listen to any of its version.  How about you?  What song makes you happy?

That’s all for today, folks.  Have a great weekend.  Cheers!

    1. Ahaha. Many people have a feeling that I would pick this one. Yes, their many names is so confusing for me. But I really like their remix version of “We Are!”. Thanks for dropping by! Keep on watching anime. Cheers!

    2. Arria-chan!! I love how you mentioned TVXQ here!! I was a big fan of them (and I guess I still am, in a way) even before I knew they performed Asu wa Kuru Kara or We Are!

As a fan, let me also make it clear that DBSK is the acronym for Dong Bang Shin Ki (which is the Korean name of the group). Translate it into Chinese and it becomes Tong Vfang Xien Qi (hence, TVXQ). And Tohonshinki (written with the Kanji, ofc) is what the group used when they were doing promotional activities in Japan, where they were such a huge hit! Proof of that is how a Korean artist/group got the chance to perform theme songs for anime and how they broke records in Japan music scene.

      1. I’m not really a fan of DBSK. I guess I know them more as Tōhōshinki because of ONE PIECE. I’m not really that familiar with them, but it’s interesting that they have 3 different names they’re known for in different countries. It’s just so confusing for me. Tōhōshinki is too long for me, so maybe I’ll just stick to DBSK. Thanks for the info. Really interesting.

  1. I’m not sure for me, but I think it would either be Kalafina’s Moonfesta, Yane no Mukou ni, or LiSA’s Kimini Piero. Just as a warning, you’ll be seeing a lot of Kalafina songs on my list. I’m a huge fan of them.
