Move over Trafalgar Law (ONE PIECE), I have a new anime crush. Drum rolls, please! Make way for Captain Levi Ackerman from Shingeki no Kyojin (進撃の巨人 / Attack on Titan). He’s my #1 favourite character in this awesome hit series. Just so you know, Mikasa is my #2.
He’s just so bad-ass and cool! He’s referred as humanity’s strongest soldier. Given that he’s a pretty small guy, what could be cooler than being called that?
You know what’s weird? He’s voiced by the same seiyuu who also voiced my former anime crush, Trafalgar Law (ONE PIECE). Readers of my DGS translations already know that I’m a fan of Kamiya Hiroshi (神谷 浩史), and of course Ono Daisuke (小野 大輔) who also voiced Commander Erwin in Shingeki no Kyojin. Not that Levi became my crush just because HiroC voiced him; I just really like Levi’s character. That’s all.
l can also relate to him, especially with his obsessive clean freak personality. I’ve been called a neat/clean freak many times before. . .well, I’m still being called that way now and then, although I’ll vehemently deny it. I just like things to be clean and in order. That doesn’t make me a “freak” in any way. On the contrary, I think it’s quite normal to keep things the way they’re supposed to—neat and clean.
Although I admit that sometimes (not very often, mind you, just sometimes) I get the urge to take apart a room, sometimes the entire house, clean it and reorganize everything. It doesn’t matter whether it’s early in the morning before everyone else is up or even whether it’s in the middle of the night after everyone else is already sleeping. If I have this urge, you’ll find me totally disregarding the time, and then just scrubbing the floor and moving the furniture.
Hmmm. Now that I think about it, perhaps this is the quality of Levi that endeared me to him the most—him being a clean freak. Don’t get me wrong. I still love his super cool fighting techniques and his no-nonsense demeanor, but this quirk of him interested me more about him than anything.
Now you know that Levi Ackerman of Shingeki no Kyojin is my current anime crush. Who’s yours? And if you watched or read the series, what do you think about Levi’s character? If you haven’t watched or read the series yet, well, what in the world are you waiting for?

Cue the fans and their exploding hearts. Levi’s great, but IMO Eren’s better 😛

Fair enough. What do you like the most about Eren?

Hmm, I’m not sure, really. His aggressive yet compassionate personality pulls me in. It’s nothing new, but something about the way he looks out for Armin and Mikasa just grips me, and kinda makes me jealous that those three are lucky to have each other considering the state of their world. Also, he’s pleasing to look at, and I don’t say that about too many male characters! :3
Pardon me, my inner fan boy slipped. Perhaps this means I’ll be searching up his hashtag in Instagram for hours just sifting through photos.

Don’t worry about it. You can let your inner fan boy slip more. 😉
I agree. I admire the strength of the relationship between those three, considering all the chaos and fear that they must be feeling in that kind of world, where it seems more convenient to abandon others for your own safety.

Levi is just outright cool IMO. He was one of the reasons that I was glad I finally gave AoT a look-in.

Same here. I was also late to jump the Attack on Titan bandwagon. But when I did, I was so glad that I watched it. Levi was just so cool.

YESS, Levi is defintely my favorite in the series 🙂 He’s one of those characters that isn’t the most beautifully drawn or anything but has such a unique personality that you’re like, “how can I not love you?” Lol, Kamiya also voices Yato who is another one of my favorites! His voice definitely does well for the characters he voices 😀

My thoughts exactly! Indeed, Levi character design isn’t the most appealing in the series, but his personality and background history are just so intriguing that you can’t help but become interested with him. And him being a “clean freak” humanizes him in a way because it’s a quirk in his otherwise fearsome reputation as a strong soldier. I know, right? Most of Kamiya’s roles fit his voice perfectly.

Definitely! He’s shown to be this ruthless soldier yet has this quirk that would be the last thing anyone would expect from him, it definitely sets him apart and makes him really original 🙂

I agree! I hope that they make him cooler and more awesome in next year’s seasonn 2 of the anime.

Glad to see you are watching it. What outlet are you watching season 2? None of my subscriptions have it yet.

But Season is not out yet.

Then who is writing updates about Season II? I have Netflix and Crunchyroll – neither has season 2. Is it on Japanese TV only, or do I have the wrong service?

Season 2 will be out next year, 2016.

Probably on Crunchyroll, but I want to own the series, so I’ll probably wait until all episodes are released and just wait for the DVD. Maybe import, if I can’t wait for the international release. Besides, I rarely watch airing shows so I may not watch the anime while it’s airing.

Why is it that most “clean freaks” save bottles of their own urine? I have to wonder what is in Levi’s quarters.

Really? They do THAT?

Howard Hughes and a few other famous germo-phobes, yes.

That’s so interesting. Then I’m definitely not a “clean freak” since I don’t store my pee in bottles inside my room.

Urine is sterile, I think that is why. Don’t fishermen in the Philippines urinate on Jellyfish stings?

Oh my gosh. I don’t know, although I heard about that before. Although I doubt that urine really works on jelly stings.

he has sleepy eyes, while eren’s are sharp . I like Mikasa, and her loyalty to eren.

I know, right? Which do you like more between Levi & Eren?

I like Eren… despite every darn thing that has happened to him, he remains a pure, kind-hearted soul.

I agree. That’s another great point in the series. Although I like Levi more than Eren, I agree with you here. There’s something innocent about him that is not present in Levi, even with all of the things he experienced and done as a child.

100% agree with you. Do you ever think that Levi is more popular than the main character?? 😀

I don’t think—I “know” that Levi is more popular than Eren. I’ve read opinion posts with people saying that sometimes they forget that Eren is the main protagonist because Levi outshines him.

😀 yeah.. it just my opinion, or some of us
There’re a lot of manga that have a character that more famous that the main protagonist. No problem about that.
I love Levi because of his personality. If the other character had that and not Levi, I think i’ll love them too.

I agree. It just seems that Levi is more of an interesting character than the main protagonist, Eren. But yes, I agree that if another character has a more intriguing personality than Levi, then I’ll also definitely like that character, too.
