Day 8:  A Song You Liked When You Were Younger

The song I liked when I was younger is Itooshi Hito no Tame ni (いとおしい人のために) by Satou Akemi (佐藤 朱美), which is the  opening theme song of the reverse harem fantasy series Fushigi Yuugi (ふしぎ遊戯).

I remember watching Fushigi Yuugi as a small girl, and I now suspect that it was one of the great corruptors of my childhood innocence.  I can’t believe my parents let me watch this series!  Not that I’m complaining now.  I’m thankful that I get to watch this classic shoujo anime as a kid.

Whenever I hear the first strings of Itooshi Hito no Tame ni back when I was a kid, I instantly ran to the TV and forbade anyone who dare change the channel.  They usually ended up watching the anime with me.  I also remember that whenever there was a mature scene (like Tamahome & Miaka doing it, you know), my parents would just cover my eyes until the scene was over.  No harm done.  I could still clearly hear what was happening, and sometimes their hands weren’t covering my eyes well that I could still peek through between their fingers.  That was as far as their censorship went.  Now before you accuse my family of poor parenting, I would like to say that I grew up an awesome and mature human being (wink, wink), so basically that gives you no right or whatsoever to judge their parenting style.

Moving on, Itooshi Hito no Tame ni will always have a special place in my heart.  As a kid, I didn’t really understand the lyrics of the song, but I understood and marvelled at its ethereal quality even at that time.  Now that I’m an adult, I still think that it’s a beautiful song.  It never fails to make me nostalgic whenever I hear it.  Sometimes when my body & mind are both relaxed, and I’m in a quiet place; I get goosebumps listening to this song.

Now you know that Itooshi Hito no Tame ni by Satou Akemi is the song I liked (well, I still like it now) when I was younger.  What’s yours?

  1. Ooh that’s a good song! Unfortunately not many anime series were aired when I was growing up, but I really enjoyed the English opening of Sailor Moon, as soon as I heard the opening line “Fighting evil by moonlight” I was at the TV 😛

    1. It is a good song. Have you watched “Fushigi Yuugi” yet? Aw. That’s sad. But look at the bright side, I guess. At least they aired anime when you were younger and you got to watch them. I think I was pretty lucky back then. For the series that weren’t aired on local TV, my family imported. The only problem was that they were in original Japanese. But I guess, that’s not really a problem when I think about it now. It was like that for “Sailor Moon”, as well. I didn’t get the chance to watch it in English growing up because I only had it in original Japanese. That was in VHS, to boot. XD
Have you watched the recent anime readaptation Crytal yet?

      1. I haven’t watched it yet, but it’s on my list!

Haha! That’s true. Oh no, you missed out on some hilariously bad dubs! Watching some of them back now I can barely get through the episode because I’m laughing so hard.

No I haven’t, I was a bit worried it wouldn’t meet my expectations :/ But the animations look pretty good

      2. I hope you enjoy watching it when you get to it. Oh well. If the dubbing is really bad, I’m glad that I didn’t watch it. 🙂

I haven’t watched Crystal yet, as well. Yes, the animation looks clean & smooth. I’m hearing some mixed reviews, though. Don’t know yet when I’ll watch it, but not right now. Anyway, thanks for dropping by. Keep on watching anime. Cheers!
