To all my fellow Dear Girls (& Dear Boys), MOSU!!!
On the 23rd of February 2013, our beloved radio show Dear Girl ~Stories~ together with its ever charismatic host duo, Kamiya Hiroshi (神谷浩史) and Ono Daisuke (小野大輔), finally made its mark at the iconic Nippon Budokan. Gasp! A first for a radio show. Round of applause, please.
Rating: 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀 (perfect 5 grins)
The event was aptly titled Dear Girl〜Stories〜 Festival Carnival Matsuri. Since I wasn’t able to attend the actual event, I made do with the DVD release just a few months after in September 2013. l’m telling you, this event was AWE-SOOOOOOOME~
Like what I just said, it seems that it was the first time that a radio show like DGS had a concert at Nippon Budokan. Both HiroC and OnoD with the entire DGS staff constantly repeat during the event that it was a dream come true for them.
They open the event with a bang with lively music from their DGS albums, complete with back-up dancers. It was such a joy to watch. Although I have a strong feeling that all the numbers were lip-synced, who cares? The important thing was that I enjoyed watching them.
FCM is packed with lots of fun segments that will remain with you long after you finish watching them. My favourites include:
DGS Academy is attended by guys who want to become more popular with the ladies. As if these DGS guys need to be popular with the ladies; they already are! Anyway, it features all of the members of the MASOCHISTIC ONO BAND as the students (OnoD, HiroC, Chanko, Suwa, Yagihashi, & Producer Uchida). . .and special guests including seiyuu Yusa Kouji (遊佐 浩二) as the homeroom teacher and Yonagappa [Yonaga Tsubasa (代永 翼) dressed as a kappa] as the Principal.
lt was a hilarious segment, but my favourite in the entire event was HiroC’s birthday special.
Kamiya Hiroshi’s Seitansai
It seems that HiroC was pushed to the stage by the staff suddenly without giving him any instructions or script. He was confused when suddenly 3 gun-toting men in black suits appeared. It was OnoD with 2 special guests: Nakamura Yuuichi (中村 悠一) and Kusunoki Taiten (楠 大典).
This was, without a doubt, my most favourite part of the event. How cool those 3 look! They all sit on a desk at the centre of the stage and “interrogate” HiroC. By “interrogation”, I mean they read testimonials by fellow seiyuu about HiroC’s kindness. Aaaaaw. So adorable!
The messages are from, of course, the 3 of them (OnoD, Taitem & Yuu-kyan) plus 3 others: Namikawa Daisuke (浪川 大輔), Onosaka Masaya (小野坂 昌也) and Yasumoto Hiroki (安元 洋貴). Unfortunately Namikawa, Onosaka and Yasumoto didn’t appear in the event. Their messages about HiroC’s kindness were read by OnoD, Taitem and Yuu-kyan instead.
All of the messages were adorable, especially with HiroC getting embarrassed and flustered, and going all tsundere to OnoD’s anecdotes about HiroC’s kindness.
Afterwards, 2 cakes were wheeled centre-stage. One for HiroC. . .and—surprise surprise—one for Yuu-kyan! HiroC’s birthday was on January 28 and Yuu-kyan’s birthday was on February 20. Since this DGS FCM event was held on February 23, they not only surprised HiroC but special guest Yuu-kyan, as well. It was so much fun watching Yuu-kyan’s expression of surprise.
DGS Hit Chart Ranking
Another fun segment was the countdown of 10 specially-selected hilarious DGS clips ranging from simple videos of HiroC & OnoD recording the radio show at their Bunka Housou studio to OnoD’s invasion of HiroC’s house (KamiSta) for HiroC’s first birthday celebration (Seitansai) in the show.
Emotionally Touching Music Performance
As a fan translator of DGS, I admire both Hiro & OnoD as seiyuu. However, as much as I like the two of them, I’m not too fond of their singing. That doesn’t mean that I hate listening to their songs. On the contrary, I find myself attached to most of their songs because of my history of translating DGS where they often promote their songs and collaborate for DGS songs.
After all of the fun segments of this Dear Girl〜Stories〜 Festival Carnival Matsuri live event at Nippon Budokan, they sing and dance their hearts out with our favourite DGS songs. They exit the stage after their “last song”, and then return again after the entire Budokan chant “Encore! Encore!”
I actually cried when they finally sing their final song in the event, Say Your Name! Dear Girl. If you are a Dear Girl (or a Dear Boy), then you already know that this is their first ever featured DGS song. It holds a special place in the hearts of all Dear Girls and Dear Boys, unlike any other DGS songs.

The sweetest thing about the whole event was when HiroC & OnoD were bowing to the audience and thanking everyone for coming. Then HiroC just suddenly grabs OnoD’s hand to show their solidarity and thank everyone together. I literally had to fan myself and hold my hands over my mouth to keep from screaming. So sweet! Oh, be still my heart. Just look at how cute the two of them look holding hands like that!
Overall, I absolutely LOVE this event. It was fun, hilarious, entertaining, and of course, touching. If you’re a Dear Girl (or a Dear Boy), this is a must-watch!
That’s all for today. Mosu!
