Difficult question. I have lots of mangaka that I highly respect. Some of them include (in alphabetical order):
Kishimoto Masashi (岸本 斉史) – Naruto
Ōba Tsugumi (大場 つぐみ) & Obata Takeshi (小畑 健) – Death Note, Bakuman.
Oda Eiichiro (尾田 栄一郎) – ONE PIECE
Togashi Yoshihiro (冨樫 義博) – HUNTERxHUNTER,Yū Yū Hakusho <– I respect you very much, Togashi-sensei, but if you would just please focus on continuing and finishing HxH? That would be awesome.
Plus a lot more, but if I put them all here, then this post would be very long. So I’ll just settle for these 4 mangaka.

My fav mangaka is Tite Kubo, the author of bleach. He definitely knows how to draw like a pro and troll….

Not to mention that he draws really attractive characters. 😉

yup,his art style is very nice!

Rumiko Takahashi! There are so many great characters in her work and she knows how to make me laugh. Osamu Tezuka is my second favourite– Dororo has been my favourite manga for years now… but I am obviously biased towards the retro stuff. I need to start keeping up with the current manga scene better!

Oooooh. Big names right off the bat. Which series is your favourite from both Takahashi & Tezuka?
LikeLiked by 1 person
Ranma 1/2 from Takahashi, and Dororo from Tezuka. I also love Maison Ikkoku though- it’s a bit more grounded than Takahashi’s other stuff.

I have to admit, I’m guilty of giving a series more credit than the author but if I had to say a mangaka based on that then I’d say Hiromu Arakawa and Akira Toriyama since he’s a legend in every sense of the word.

Great artists! Both of them. Toriyama has inspired a lot of the currently popular manga artists today. Arakawa is also a great storyteller that I admire. Thanks for sharing your favourite manga artists. Cheers!

Oh, this is a nice topic! Let’s see, I’m going to try and say stuff that you didn’t list…..Hm, Ken Akamatsu (love his artwork and the fact that he’s very vocal in what he believes should be in a mangaka’s right), Makoto Yukimura, Gosho Aoyama, Shuzo Oshimi, and Akira Hiramoto!! Yes, I feel good 😀

Ooooooh. I’m not very familiar with these artists except for Akamatsu and Aoyama. Who’s your most favourite among these?
LikeLike
That’s a tough one, I’d say Makoto Yukimura, his Vinland Saga series is amazing, and maybe Oshimi as a close second. His flowers of evil series was really good, but his Inside Mari series is by far one of my favorite ongoing mangas ever.

I haven’t read any of their works. Sounds interesting. Thanks!

Awesome choices.
My favorites include Akira Toriyama (Dragon Ball series), Eiichiro Oda (One Piece), Masashi Kishimoto (Naruto), Tite Kubo (Bleach) and Nobuhiro Watsuki (Rurouni Kenshin).
I have more but if I continued on, this comment would be like a grocery list hahaha.

They’re my favourites, as well! High-five! It’s difficult to choose just 1 from among these great manga artists. But do you have a single most favourite mangaka?

High five ^^!
I agree, choosing one is a toughy. If I had to choose one, it’s a tie between Eiichiro Oda, Akira Toriyama or Masashi Kishimoto. I don’t have a single favorite :-P.

Me, too! They’re some of the legends who drastically changed the manga industry for the better.

I totally agree. They pretty much changed the world. Their ideas are fascinating.

Same here. I just just hope I will be alive to see the end of One Piece. I have high hopes for the ending.

Me, too! We’re more than halfway there, I guess. We’ll see. This series just keeps on getting better and better with age.

I am looking forward for it. I realize that if One Piece does end, it’s going to be like Naruto for fans. Some people are going to be happy and sad.
LikeLiked by 1 person
I agree. I’m one of those. I’m sad that Naruto already ended, but at the same time, I’m happy that it ended the way it did. And being a fan of epilogues, I’m thrilled that Kishimoto-sensei took the time to draw the story after Naruto achieved his dream of becoming Hokage. I don’t know about ONE PIECE, but I hope that it does tie up all the loose ends when it’s all finished.

I need to read the epilogues. when Naruto manga ended, I was happy Naruto reached his dreams but I was sad that the story is over. If One Piece does reach the end, I wonder what will the fans react. I agree with you about loose ends, with so much chapters on One Piece, I hope Oda sensei doesn’t leave out anything.

You should. I’m glad that Naruto ended after the war & didn’t force itself to drag on top long. I know, right? As an OP fan, even I don’t know how I’ll react myself. It’s something to look forward to.

I agree, the manga doesn’t have to drag on and we can focus on the characters. I can safely say that once One Piece ends, it’s gonna hit everyone and fans will be posting about it nonstop.

You can count me as one of those fans posting nonstop about it, and I bet that you’ll going to be one of them, too! 😉

Not gonna lie, I would probably will 😛
A long going series with a huge fandom like that is going be like a huge storm. Next thing we will see is another comic con with Eiichiro Oda visiting the USA, just Kishimoto-sensei.

I know, right? But that will still be a few years, hopefully. I don’t want ONE PIECE to end yet.

Yeah I know what you mean. I want to see One Piece end but I also want to see more of Luffy’s adventures. The sea is vast and who knows what is out there.

Togashi Yoshihiro for writing my favorite shounen series, CLAMP for having such a range, and going more old-school, Go Nagai for having an even bigger range and basically inventing or codifying multiple genres.

I agree! Although I just wish Togashi-sensei get his act together and fulfill his fans’ request of finally focusing on finishing HxH. Who’s your most favourite among these 3?

I guess Nagai is probably the one I’m the biggest fan of. (Which isn’t necessarily the same as who I’d call the “best”.)

Ahahaha. I understand what you mean. The “best” is relative and different from each person. Who you think is best may not necessarily who I think is best. Anyway, thanks for dropping by and sharing your favourite manga artists.

Depende sa anime, marami ka ring matututunan kaya maganda ngang manuod ‘pag may time ka, gaya ng sinabi mo. Oh wow. Maraming salamat!

My favorite mangaka have to be Nobuhiro Watsuki (Rurouni Kenshin, Busou Renkin) and Rumiko Takahashi (Inuyasha, Ranma 1/2). Akimine Kamijyo (Samurai Deeper Kyo) is also pretty good, but not quite as good as the first two.

Ooooh. All of them features swordsmen So who do you like the best among these mangaka?

Definitely Nobuhiro Watsuki. His Rurouni Kenshin was an unparalleled masterpiece after all. 🙂 And Hajime Saito was the best swordsman of them all.

Ahhh, such a hard question! So I’m on board with all the CLAMP people before me, I actually just started reading their stuff recently (this year) and just everything that they’ve produced is really beautiful (least, what I’ve read so far, I’m still MANY series away from reading all their stuff :P)
Rumiko Takahashi was the one who started me on the anime path with Inuyasha.
I also really like Oba Tsugumi + Obata Takeshi, Mizuho Kusanagi (NG Life, Mugen Spiral, GameXRush), Sui Ishida (TG), Rihito Takarai (Only the Flower Knows, Ten Count, Grainerie, etc), Asou Kai (Only serious about you, cool/uncool), and MANY MORE

Oh, we have similar tastes! Even though I haven’t read any manga by CLAMP, like I said in the other comments, I enjoyed the anime adaptations of some of their most popular works. Good luck in your quest of reading all of their works. Do your best!
And I also agree with the other mangaka that you included here. It has been a while since I last read a Kusanagi Mizuho work until I decided to read “Akatsuki no Yona” last month. And I fell in love with her works all over again.

I’ve been meaning to check that one out, saw a picture of the characters a while back and thought it looked really cool :0

You should. “Akatsuki no Yona” is really good. I like the character development because it’s gradual, so you can really feel the improvements in the characters compared to others that have amazing characters right from the start. I also watched the anime and I wish they adapt the rest of the manga. Anyway, hope that you get to read it when you have the time. Cheers!

Also very difficult to choose but I’ll have to go with Takehiko Inoue. His style and attention to detail is amazing and also very life-like.

When I first read Slam Dunk, I wasn’t impressed but as time went by, his art evolved and became better and that includes his later works as well. So what’s your favourite work of his?

I really love the storytelling of Kishimoto Masashi. To go further back, I used to be into Masamune Shirow and Katsuhiro Otomo.
But to be honest, currently, there is nothing like Eiichiro Oda. So much imagination. I adore his work.

Yay, high-five! Kishimoto & Oda!
I liked Masamune’s work at some point during high school, but not so anymore. But I’m not saying I dislike his works now. It’s just that I like others better, you know. As for Katsuhiro Otomo, oh wow, a legend. Even if I haven’t personally read any of his works, who doesn’t know him? I mean, he’s a legend.

The phone-book sized Akira graphic novels are great reads, highly recommended. And of course, the film was my main introduction to anime/manga back in the 90s…

Can’t really comment because I haven’t personally read it. But Kishimoto himself admitted that seeing a poster of Akira inspired him.

Nice. I haven’t read any manga from either CLAMP or Kaori Yuki, but I watched the ones that were adapted into anime. So which series is your favourite by each mangaka?
LikeLiked by 1 person
It is hard to pick one for CLAMP because they have done so many. Cardcaptor Sakura, Tsubasa, Magic Knight Rayearth, and Holic are my favorites. I love Godchild and Angel Sanctuary by Kaori Yuki.
LikeLiked by 1 person
Same here, since all of them except Godchild have been adapted into anime. For CLAMP, I think my favourite would be Magic Knight Rayearth since I have so many good memories watching it as a child. I don’t remember the entire story, but I feel nostalgic whenever I hear about it now. As for Kaori Yuki, I would choose Angel Sanctuary. Watching it was a huge “GASP” moment for me. Hmmm. I’ll think about reading the original manga versions.

My number one favorite is Shintaro Kago, no question. He completely blew me away from the moment I stumbled upon him and I’ve loved his style ever since. He’s clearly not for everyone though since he’s a guro artist. Other than that I’m a big fan of Taiyo Matsumoto as well as Masamune Shirow.

I must admit that the style of these 3 artists is not to my taste, although I liked Masamune-sensei’s works at some point when I was in high school. I think this is the first time that I heard about Shintaro Kago. I searched some of his works and wow, they’re grotesque. I agree that his style is not clearly for everyone. Some of his illustrations that I saw from Google look like they belong in some kind of art show.

CLAMP are my favorite, I’ve read so much of their stuff. It’s fascinating to me that they kind of trade around duties sometimes for different projects.

CLAMP. Girl power! I don’t think I’ve actually read any of their manga, but I love a lot of the anime adaptations of their works. Indeed, their work model is very fascinating. And it’s also admirable that they’re able to work together for such a long time, you know? Anyway, which of their works is your most favourite?
