CANDY CANDY by Kyary Pamyu Pamyu: Not My Cup of Tea

Day 17:  A Song that Annoys You

CANDY CANDY by Kyary Pamyu Pamyu is a song that annoys me because, well, it’s annoying.  Though I’ll admit that if I strain and try hard enough, it can be catchy but oh well, this kind of overly kawaii, bubblegum fruit pop music just isn’t my cup of tea at all.

Don’t get me wrong.  I’m not a hater.  I like that Kyary Pamyu Pamyu isn’t afraid to express herself with her outrageous costumes, hair, and make-up with her equally outrageous songs.  I also admire that she’s not afraid to push beyond the limits of her creativity, successfully melding weird and cute until they’re synonymous with her.  More power to her and her fans not only in Japan but in various parts of the globe.

It’s just that CANDY CANDY and most of her other songs sound more like shrieking hens to my ears.  It’s just a matter of preference and unfortunately, her music just isn’t to my taste.  Watching her colourful and interesting music videos in MUTE is much more entertaining to me than trying to bear listening to her songs.

Now you know that CANDY CANDY and most songs by Kyary Pamyu Pamyu are songs that annoy me.  What’s yours?

  1. I’m not familiar with Japanese singers and their songs, and I did watche the video, and, yo u’re right…. it is annoying, not my cup of tea. I can tell with 100% certainty this song’s not gonna make it in the US.

    1. It is, right? She’s actually labelled as the Lady Gaga of Japan. Actually she’s quite popular internationally and even has confirmed American celebrity fans like Ariana Grande. Her music is not my cup of tea, but many people love her and her songs; that’s why she’s insanely popular.

      1. I agree. Lady Gaga has a great voice. Oh well. Even if I don’t personally like Kyary Pamyu Pamyu’s songs, I admit that she’s been doing a great job in building her brand as weird and cute.
