Rip Apart the Sexual Objectification of Women in “Nettaiya” by RIP SLYME

Day 23:  A Song That Makes You Angry

I don’t really have a song that makes me angry per se, but Nettaiya (熱帯夜) by RIP SLYME comes close to it.  I actually think that it’s a good song, catchy, and makes you groove along with its beat.  What dismays me is its music video.  Watch below to see what I mean.

As a woman, I’m quite dismayed by the blatant sexual objectification of females in this music video.  I couldn’t help but cringe and it took some effort to watch the entire video until the end.  I read somewhere (can’t remember, sorry) that about 90% of pop songs are about sex, but oh gosh, there are just some music videos that I wish were never made and unfortunately this is one of them.  Don’t get me wrong.  I’m not a frigid sex-hater.  Sex can be one of the most intensely beautiful acts in the world, but this video reduces it to something cheap.  In my opinion, such a tacky and cringe-inducing sexual video as this destroyed a totally good song.

How about you?  What do you think about this music video?  Now you know that Nettaiya (熱帯夜) by RIP SLYME is a song that makes me close to feeling angry.  What’s yours?

  1. Rip slyme don’t take themselves seriously. It might be hard to see with a language and cultural barrier, but this music video is more a parody than anything.

    1. Well, it DID piss me off. And I’m just now realizing that it’s actually “boring” because I moved pass being pissed off. I still liked the song, though. It’d be nice to listen to NOT watch. Thanks for dropping by.

  2. It just makes for a super boring video. The only thing that is “eye-catching” are the ladies and it’s only because of how they are dressed. I just get sick of the idea that as long as you put a “sexy” woman in your video it is automatically an interesting video. There’s not even real dancing! It didn’t make me angry, but It sure did irk me with how boring it was.

    1. Ahaha! Now that you mention it, I was so overcome with dismay at the skimpy outfits and all the gyrating of the girls that I didn’t notice that nothing was really going on in the video. You’re right. It’s boring. Nothing but guys in suits and dancing girls in skimpy outfits.

    1. I agree. There’s really nothing of substance about the music video. It’s just guys in suits singing while girls in skimpy outfits dance around them. It’s torture to watch. The song is nice, though. I might as well listen to it in audio only instead of watching the music video. Thanks for dropping by!
