[CLOSED] What Anime Are You Watching This Holiday Break? (2015)

This discussion is now CLOSED

NARUTO

I’m still catching up with Naruto.  I dropped it for some time to focus on my #1 favourite series ONE PIECE, but when I decided to finish reading the manga some months ago, it rekindled my inner fangirl for this ninja series.  So here I am, doing my best to catch up with the anime.  Though I went ahead and watched the last two films:  The Last Movie and Boruto.

UTA NO PRINCE-SAMA (Maybe?)

@sindyblue10 has been recommending this to me for quite a while now, but it never felt the right time for me.  As a fan of reverse harem series, I’m sure that this will appeal to me.  We’ll see.

ONE PIECE (Of course!)

I figure this would be obvious for such a huuuuuuge ONE PIECE fan like me.  But I still want to include it in this post.  Teehee! 😉

How about you?  What anime are you watching this holiday break?

  1. I watched mostly reruns during the holiday break. Too lazy to DL new stuff. Watched a little bit Mobile Suit Gundam Unicron, a little bit of Mobile Suit Gundam: The 08th MS Team, a little bit of Genshiken season 2, and a lot of Chou Mashin Eiyuden Wataru.

      1. I have a lot of favorites in the UC (Universal Century) timeline for Gundam. If I will pick JUST one, Then That will be Mobile Suit Victory Gundam. Its basically “defend Earth from being conquered.” A lot of people hate the show, but I like it.

      2. I’m not really that familiar with Gundam because I’m not too fond of mecha anime. But I’m trying to give it a try with double 0, but like I said I haven’t finished it yet. If you can recommend a newbie like me to introduce to the Gundam franchise, which series would you recommend I start with?

      3. Ahahaha! I noticed that while watching the series. They’re trying to end war with more violence. But I tried to watch it in the first place because a lot of my favourite seiyuu are in the cast. A shallow reason, I know, but there you go.

  2. Catching up with Naruto is gonna make it a long christmas with all of those episodes but now you mention it, I might have to catch up as well . I’m about to start watching one punch man (I’m like the only person who hasn’t watched it) as well as black lagoon and possibly dragonball super.

    1. Indeed. But I’m determined to do it. Even if I don’t catch up before the holiday ends, I can still watch after (during breaks, of course). 😉

Oh no, sir. I’m also one of those people. I’m holding myself back from watching One-punch Man, for now. I’m still waiting until all the buzz die down a bit. I don’t want to be too affected with them so as not to cloud my own opinions while I watch it. Anyway, good luck with your anime plans this holiday. Enjoy!

      1. I see. Very systematic. I prefer marathoning all of the episodes in one go or watching until I’m satisfied, no matter how many episodes are needed to do that. Anyway, enjoy watching. Happy holidays!

  3. Arria… I am completely prepared to fite you for watching the Naruto movies before finishing the actual series. ;'(
Also I am watching Yu-Gi-Oh! Arc-V, Overlord, One Punch Man and I just finished Parasyte!

    1. Bring it on. I can handle a little bit of fight here and there. 😉

But I did finish the series. I finished the manga. That counts, you know. It’s only the anime that I haven’t caught up with. That’s what I’m doing now. I’m enjoying it. Have you watched the last 2 Naruto films?

Oooooh. Nice. I’m very curious about One-Punch Man. I’m waiting a bit before I watch it, though. Enjoy!

      1. Ahaha. Thanks. I see. Aw. I think it’s worth it to watch Boruto for yourself, even if you already know how it ends. It’s pretty good, I think, kind of predictable in terms of characterization and plotline but still entertaining. Hope you get the chance to watch it. Happy holidays. Cheers!

  4. Finishing up Samurai Champloo, then maybe catching up on some Ghibli films I haven’t seen yet. . . . doubt I’ll have time for anything else, although there are a ton of others I really want to see.

      1. Ponyooooooo! Love it.
I haven’t had the chance to watch “Princess Kaguya” yet. I’m hearing a lot of good things about it. Another one I want to watch is “The Wind Rises” which I also haven’t watched yet. Perhaps this year. We’ll see. Anyway, have fun. Cheers!

      2. I know right? Ponyo’s absolutely classic and adorable. The Wind Rises was pretty neat, but definitely not your usual Ghibli. I mean, it’s basically biographical fiction. Still gorgeous and interesting though.

    1. Oh wow. That’s quite a feat. That’s a lot. Ahahaha! How are you going to finish all of them? And you’re still looking for more? Ahaha. Anyway, I hope that you enjoy all of them. And thanks! Happy holidays. Cheers!

      1. Sounds good. It seems that you have an abundance of energy to watch all of that titles. Unfortunately for me, I spend more time sleeping and just resting (still so exhausted) than actual watching. Feeling much better as a result, though. Which series are you loving so far?

    1. Hi, Lita! Always a pleasure when you visit here. Thanks! Nice. You have quite a lot of titles there. Can you finish all of them before holidays or are you just taking your time alternating between them? Anyway, hope you have fun watching them. Enjoy! I hope that you’re doing well, too. Happy holidays. Cheers!

      2. I thought so, but it’s the holidays so you can take your time to watch the series that you feel like watching. No pressure, right? Yes, I had a great Christmas. Thanks. I hope that you did, too. And have a happy new year ahead. Cheers!

  6. One Piece as always, of course!

Have you seen Naruto the Last yet?

I think the main thing I need to catch up on (now that I finished Gundam Unicorn quite late) is Gundam Origin…

    Liked by 1 person

    1. Of course! Ahaha. I know you’ll say that. We love ONE PIECE!!!

Yes, I’ve seen it. So romantic. I was quite surprised. I also watched Boruto. Oooooh. Gundam. I dropped Gundam 00, but I’m planning on taking it up again. How’s Origin?

      1. Ahaha. No problem. I’m not pushing it completely aside since I enjoyed watching it before as well. And thanks very much. You too. Hope you have a great holiday season and a greater new year ahead. Cheers!

      2. OK, at least I chose something you have watched! Maybe I should have chosen another favorite of mine, ‘Read or Die’. Not sure what it is, but the movie version has become a great anime classic to me.
        Have a fantastic 2016!

      3. Oh my gosh. That makes me so nostalgic. I watched ROD when I was younger. I don’t remember much of it now because I was so young when I watched it but I remember enjoying it. Enjoy when you get to watch it. And thanks. You too. Have a fantastic 2016 ahead. Cheers!

      1. I can’t really comment whether the hype justifies the quality of the series since I haven’t watched it yet. But I hear a lot of people enjoyed it and it seems that you did too. I’m looking forward to it. Cheers!

    1. Nice. I watch some “Gintama” now and then. I just can’t marathon it, unlike “Naruto” since it’s too gag-gy for me, if you know what I mean? But I still like it. I’ll squeeze an episode or two during this holiday. Thanks for the reminder and enjoy watching. Cheers!

      Liked by 1 person

      1. I agree. Gintama severely lacks the good suspense and “feels” that I love about Naruto. But I like the characters themselves, and the serious parts are finally starting to unfold, so fingers crossed. And good holiday to you too!

  7. Will probably focus on my games because I’ll go to to my home country for the Winter holidays and I don’t know how much my PSVita will be able to act as a computer. hahaha Been trying to finish Diabolik Lovers More Blood meanwhile, but I already marathoned like 8 episodes and I’m inbetween traumatized, “wtf am I watching” and “omg I can’t believe this season was able to give me some guilty pleasures!”. As for UtaPri 3, I’d say it’s very easy to get into. I also had difficulty actually picking it up and continue it, but, when I did, you don’t even know how much it was able to make me relax after my shitty exam period. It was better than any yoga meditation XD So, fighto!

    1. Ooooh, nice. Where’s your home country? Enjoy! Ahaha. I have a feeling that you’re going to say that since you blog about games and all. I haven’t watched “Diabolik Lovers More Blood” yet and I’m not really in a hurry to do so. I’ll probably wait out a bit or when I run out of interesting things to watch. I can understand what you mean. That’s my reaction too when I first watched first season. Oh no. I haven’t started Uta-Pri yet. I’m focusing more on “Naruto” right now. But maybe. . .we’ll see. Ahaha! Good for you. As for me, I haven’t really have any quality time to “relax” after “my shitty exam period” (your words, not mine) 😉
But oh well. I’m still alive and kicking so that’s gotta count for something. Happy holidays. Cheers!

      1. Oh, cool. How was your trip to your home country? I hope that you had fun. Yes, thank you. I did manage to relax and have fun a lot. It was a mixture of relaxation and exhaustion, but overall very happy. How about yours? Anyway, welcome back!

      2. Hahahaha My trip was alright. I had fun and met my childhood friends when there, but the trip back was horrible because Rome’s airport just failed at organization and they almost made me loose my second plane! =^= I think I had to run through the whole airport from Terminal H to B =^= But anyway, I’m back now and have to go back studying…Thank you 🙂

        Liked by 1 person

      3. Oh my gosh. I can totally relate. It happened to me once, too. I had to run from one end of an airport to the other side and I was the last passenger to board. Fortunately the plane still waited for me, but they had to announce my name throughout the airport’s PA system. Ahaha!

Anyway, that’s great that you met with your childhood friends. I’m kind of envious. It’s been years, too, when I last met up with my childhood friends. Thanks for sharing with me such an entertaining little story about the airport incident. And good luck with your studies. Cheers!

  8. Word of advice for Uta-Pri: I really like the series (heck, I ended up buying all the main games), but part of my original enjoyment was that season 1 aired on Nico Nico, and the comments were hilarious. It’s an enjoyable reverse harem on its own, but it’s even more fun when thousands of people punch it up by commenting on the heroine’s eyecolor or bowing down to Wakamoto/Shining. So you might want to watch it with a bit of “insert your own joke/eyeroll/snarky comment” mindset.

    1. That’s so interesting. I’ll try to follow your advice when I do get to watch it which I haven’t yet. I’ve been focusing on “Naruto”. No promises, though. I’m really not that enthusiastic about watching Uta-Pri yet because my mind is still in shounen-action mode by watching Naruto and ONE PIECE. Thanks for the advice. Happy holidays. Cheers!

  9. Probably just watch all these older ones I started, or put in my Crunchyoll and Netflix ques but never started or finished.

My “watch someday” list does not get any shorter.

My son and I want to find something we both like so we can stay up all night binge watching it … especially as it is hard to sleep Christmas Eve.

    1. Ahaha. I can totally relate. Instead of getting shorter, my own to-watch list is getting longer instead. I know that I’m not the only one seeing your comment. Did you watch any anime during Christmas eve?

      Like

      1. Finished Food Wars with my son. Also re-watched a good bit of Nights of Sidonia (I binge watched in last summer). I started watching Beautiful Bones, but it was so late I couldn’t. Also we are continuing “Folktales from Japan”.

My son has similar Anime tastes you have: he likes One Piece and Hunter x Hunter, and Naruto.

      2. That’s so sweet, watching anime with your son. Reminds me when I was a little girl watching Dragon Ball and Yu Yu Hakusho with my dad. Nowadays though he’s not as interested in watching new anime. But that’s fine.

Oh. Cool. Those three are some of my favourites and ONE PIECE is my super favourite. Your son has good tastes. By the way, how old is he? If you don’t mind my asking.

      3. He is a 7th grader. We had to listen to his 3 CD set of One Piece Theme songs on the commute back and forth to school for about three months. Oddly he does not want to admit to some of his friends that he watches anime.

        Liked by 1 person

      4. Oh wow. Before you know it, he’ll be in college. And so you already got him the ONE PIECE theme song CD set. Way to go! I remember you asking me about that before. Aaaaw. That’s understandable, though. I personally don’t hide that I love watching anime, but it seems that based on my appearance, people assume that I wouldn’t give anime the time of the day. People are weird, but there you go.

    1. Ah! I want to but the buzz around these two shows are still too strong right now. I’m still waiting for the buzz to die down a bit before I watch any shows. This is one of the reasons why I don’t watch airing shows. Even if the show’s finished airing, if the buzz is still too strong, I wait it out. I don’t want to be too influenced by it when I watch the show. I want to be able to form my own opinions. But I’m very curious about them since I see them everywhere: my reader, Twitter, even facebook! But I do hope that you’re enjoying them. Cheers!

  10. I’m going to go back and watch some classic Ghibli. Laputa, Totoro, Yamadas haven’t been watched for a long time and deserve to be seen regularly. There are a few series on Netflix at the moment in the UK that I might also check out.

    Great post!

    1. Oh wow. Nice. It’s always good and comforting to watch some of the classics. It’s a great way to spend some quality time with family or loved ones. Hope that you’re enjoying watching them during these holidays. Cheers!

      And thanks. 🙂
