Today on the 28th of January is seiyuu Hiroshi Kamiya’s birthday!! To celebrate I thought I’d write a tribute about some of his best performances, traits and songs to go alongside the translation I posted earlier. Please join me in celebrating the birthday of this beautiful, talented man!
Hiroshi Kamiya is one of the most popular seiyuu in Japan having been working as one for many years. Some of his most notable roles are Takashi Natsume from Natsume Yuujinchou, Levi from Shingeki no Kyojin/Attack on Titan, Yato from Noragami, Trafalgar Law from One Piece, Izaya Orihara from Durarara!!, Yuzuru Otonashi from Angel Beats… The list is endless!
Ranging from near insane characters to the purest of cinnamon rolls he manages to pull off a wide range of characters delivering masses of emotion with just his voice. People often think I’m a Kamiya fan for his charming looks and voice and whilst this is true, it isn’t the only reason I admire him. Being a seiyuu isn’t easy, it’s a work-heavy job with little time to rest. Kamiya always demonstrates he is hard-working and professional when need be, yet manages to still entertain us with his nerdiness and dorkiness onstage. I think someone who works so hard yet always has a smile on his face and can brighten other peoples’ days too is someone truly amazing.
In 2009 Kamiya (reportedly reluctantly) started a music career with his first mini album “Hare no Hi” and his very first MV, “My Diary”. Six years later having found joy in singing after what will soon be 5 singles, 5 mini albums and a full album (as well as collabs for KamiYu and DGS with Daisuke Ono) Kamiya re-released this song with a far more upbeat tone and an MV that showed how much he enjoys making music. With his latest single “Danger Heaven?” (←affiliate link) on the way on the 24/2 (or 2/24 for all you Americans out there) Kamiya continues to produce upbeat music full of emotion or just generally catchy and cheery songs for all to experience.
Whether you’re a huge fan or a small fan or a Dear Girl or Dear Boy, I hope you’ll take today to celebrate Hiroshi Kamiya’s birthday with me! I’m thankful for all the hard work he does to brighten up our days, even if it’s just a little.
Thank you for everything Hiroshi Kamiya! Happy 41st birthday!
