Kamiya Hiroshi Shouldn’t Have Had to Apologize for Having a Family

Fans of seiyuu Kamiya Hiroshi (神谷浩史) like myself are abuzz by the disclosure of a photo of him carrying a little boy on a Japanese tabloid last month.  This photo and its implication that Kamiya fathered a child immediately trended on Twitter Japan, and in fact it was via Twitter that I learned about this incident.

Japanese fans are known for their 180-degree turn-arounds when it comes to their idols, and this includes the seiyuu industry as well.  They support their idols like they’re the best beings ever created in the universe, but when the idols become tarnished by scandals, the fans suddenly become their greatest enemies and destroyers of what’s left of their careers and reputations.

No-Dating Policy & Sexism in Japanese Showbiz

Many of us are aware of the notorious no-dating policy of the idol industry.  I personally think that this policy is ridiculous and stupid.  Remember the shocking apology video of AKB48’s Minegishi Minami (峯岸 みなみ) where she shaved her head and repeatedly apologized while sobbing for spending the night with her boyfriend?  And let’s not forget Becky’s ultra-fast fall from grace when it was revealed this January that she had an affair with a band vocalist who turned out to be married—what a douchebag, that guy.

The scale of what these women had to go through in Japan is unthinkable here in North America and even in my mother country the Philippines.  Heck, just look at Kim Kardashian.  She had an effing sex tape for all the world to watch and where did that land her?  She and her entire family successfully built a reality TV show mega-empire.  Enough with the Kardashians (whispers: I actually like them. Khloe’s the best!).  I just want to show the difference in the treatment of Japanese female entertainers in showbiz compared to their overseas counterparts.

kardashian females

Taking this sexist stance of Japanese show business into consideration, Kamiya Hiroshi’s situation should prove more optimistic than, say, if a female seiyuu is caught in the same exact position he’s currently in.  As a male idol seiyuu, his reputation and career shouldn’t take that big a hit compared to his female counterparts.  I know that this is ridiculously unfair, and as a female this makes me furious.  However, I’m also a Kamiya Hiroshi fan and although it’s against my principles, I’m counting on this Japanese showbiz sexism to help Kamiya weather through this storm in his career.

Kamiya Hiroshi fathering a child is NOT a “SCANDAL”

Let’s leave this sexism talk for a bit and move on to the details of Kamiya’s “scandal”.  If you search the web, many call this incident “scandal”.  I did too at first, but I realized that it’s grossly unfair to the child involved to be forcefully made into a major player in such an ugly term “scandal”.  The word implies something or someone unwanted or forbidden.  I don’t think that Kamiya fathering a son is a “scandal” at all.  It’s not like a sex tape of him and his wife was released to the public à la  Kim K.  On the contrary, I think that the tabloid photo of him carrying his son is ADORABLE with a capital A.  Let’s look at the photo again.

kamiya hiroshi carrying son

What I see here is a father lovingly carrying his son and the son clinging to his daddy because daddy makes him feel loved and safe.  If that isn’t adorable to you, I don’t know what is.

To be honest, I wasn’t too surprised that he had a wife and son.  There were already rumours circulating for years that he secretly married Nakamura Hikaru (中村 光), mangaka of Arakawa Under the Bridge.  The clues are present and many fans have come to this conclusion even before the above photo surfaced.  It was just a matter of whether Kamiya admits it with his own words.

Known for Keeping his Privacy

From the very start, we already know how private Kamiya is about his personal life.  Whenever his combi partner Ono Daisuke (小野大輔) reveals juicy tidbits about the entire Ono family on their radio show Dear Girl ~Stories~, Kamiya usually just offers comments and dodges OnoD’s attempts to make him talk about his private life. . .well, except about his cat Nyanko-sensei.  When it comes to his cat, he just can’t help but gush about how cute his pet is.  He doesn’t blog or use social media accounts to update his fans about what he’s doing every single day unlike his fellow seiyuu.

Considering the importance he places on his privacy, it shouldn’t come as a complete surprise that he didn’t announce his marriage or the birth of his child.  I know that many of his fans took this as a slight to their trust.  However, I firmly believe that Kamiya has every right on this universe to enjoy life as a married man and a father.  He’s in his 40’s, for goodness’ sake!  Leave the man alone and let him bask in happiness with his own family.

He Shouldn’t Have Had to Apologize

As damage control, he apologized during an episode of DGS.  Read this post for an excerpt of his apology translated in English.  Uchi-P and everyone at DGS are so awesome for letting him tackle this issue on-air, but I still think it was ridiculous that he had to apologize for having a family.  Like I said, he’s an adult man in his 40’s.  I feel so sorry for him for being forced to apologize, but at the same time my respect and admiration for him grew tenfold for toughing it up and laying down a big portion of his personal life for everyone to see when he’s such a private person.  I’m just so incensed that he was forced to apologize.  Those haters better not send hate mails or death threats to his son or else. . . .

Fortunately, he has many loyal fans (myself included and of course including Becky aka pastelshionmy blogging partner).  However, there are those ridiculous ones who are selling all of their Kamiya Hiroshi goods on the internet because they can’t handle that Kamiya is secretly married with a child.

kamiya hiroshi goods

Honestly, these people shouldn’t have called themselves “fans” in the first place.  And good riddance to them.  Other more loyal HiroC fans would be more than happy to snatch those goodies away from their undeserving selves.  So ridiculous, don’t you think?

Kamiya Hiroshi Remains an Excellent Seiyuu

Like what I said earlier in this post, I’m optimistic that Kamiya would weather through this bump in his career.  After all, he’s already one of the most popular and renowned seiyuu in the industry.  If AKB48’s Minegishi Minami managed to claw her way back (you have to watch  her RIZAP CM!) and Becky still seems to have the courage and determination to work in Japanese showbiz, I’m pretty sure that a male idol seiyuu like Kamiya Hiroshi has more than a big chance to retain his status as a bankable seiyuu.

Now this is the part where my insensitivity surfaces, but I think that if Kamiya and his management move smartly, they can use this recent issue to gain more publicity (and sales) for his upcoming mini-album Theather which will be officially released this coming August 24th.  Just saying.

No matter how this turns out, for me Kamiya Hiroshi will always remain one of the greatest seiyuu ever.  ONE PIECE, Shingeki no Kyojin (Attack on Titan), Noragami, Osomatsu-san and all of the anime he voiced in will not be the same without him.  All of his haters because he admitted he has a family can all go to you-know-where for all I care.

I don’t care if he has a family. . .heck, I don’t care if he’s a ten-time divorcee with a dozen children or even if he’s gay.  I respect his professionalism and craft as a seiyuu and that won’t change because of his personal circumstances.  I just wish that more of his so-called “fans” are mature enough to realize that he’s a man with his own personal life and not just a figure and a voice that they think they own for themselves.

Kamiya Hiroshi, I sincerely wish more power to you and an even more stellar career as a seiyuu.  Show those narrow-minded idiots what you’re made of.  頑張ってください、神谷浩史さん!

Arria

  1. These type of people are the type I hate.
If it’s true though then the kids very cute and I want to cuddle him.
If not then I’d like to smack the sorry excuse for fans life out of them.
    Anyways back to topic…
Is that kid his? I know people aren’t that stupid (if they are dear god help the world!) so they’d not believe it. I suspect Aoni is behind this and the kids not a kid but a doll. I hope no more rumors crop up. And why a black and white photo? This clearly isn’t true.
I know Kamiya-san may not read this but I’ll say it.

Kamiya-san please go freelance. I beg you.

    1. Hi Charli. I know, right? Thankfully, this issue has died down a lot now. Phew. Even I’m not sure that the kid is his. He hasn’t really confessed anything, just said he’s sorry. But my point is that whether he’s married or have a son, he’s still a great seiyuu and I just don’t think he has to say sorry for anything. If Aoni is really behind this, well, that just sucks. Ahaha. I know how you feel. Ono Daisuke, his combi partner also went freelance, so perhaps he’ll follow suit. We’ll see. And goodness knows that he can afford to go freelance now since he’s a very popular and bankable seiyuu in his own right. Anyway, thank you very much for dropping by and sharing your opinions about this matter.

  2. Lol…… Your statement is definitely true Arria san.
As you are their fan so, sometimes it’s interesting for us to hear about our favorite celebrities.
At first I was like OMG Suzuki is married? Impossible! And then he spread his photo with his wife. She was a cat. Lol
And I didn’t know about the agencies and showbiz….. Yes you are right. Completely logical.
Thank you Arria san ❤ ❤

    1. Ahahaha! Well, I guess it’s only natural for fans to be curious about the personal lives of their idols. But of course there is a fine line between curiosity and obsession. I think it’s important that fans are respectful for the private lives of celebrities because ultimately they’re people just like us. Ahahahaha! That’s so funny.
Indeed, it’s true about Japanese showbiz. It can be pretty brutal when you get embroiled in a scandal. Anyway, thanks for your comments. I appreciate them. Take care. Cheers!

  3. Hi.
I think it’s none of our business if he’s gay, married, divorced, kid is his.
I’m following his great work. He’s voice actor not a porn star to show us he’s really with Ono or not.
He’s just doing his job. Shimazaki said in saiki studio Ono and kamiya were really close, their behavior wasn’t like someone who is friend with other person. Even Shimazaki confirmed that maybe their fans are thinking right about their relationship. He said this on 22 September 2016.
Shimazaki isn’t their best friend to lie about them to make a lot of fujoshis for them. Isayama Hajime isn’t that close to them but he thinks they have something to hide.
With these things I can’t believe these rumors.
If that kid was for him he would confirm that for sure. But he didn’t.
    Anyway thanks.
I can understand japan’s society. This isn’t easy to talk about ur relationship there. That’s why their singers hide their own private life too.

    1. U know I’m not Onomiya fans or kamiya’s fan. I’m Suzuki fan. But honestly he made right decision about his unclear answer. He was between two ways…. Answering or don’t answer.
If he say that kid is his:1_are u married? 2_are u divorced?3_that kid is for u and Ono?
If he say that kid isn’t mine:1_then who’s kid for?

If I was in his shoes I would answer like him!
      His reaction was completely logical.

      1. I agree with you. But this one was really ridiculous. Every time that I see someone is talking about this rumor, I just laugh!
Suzumura asked a good question from kamiya: Ono and you are partners for a long time! You work together for a long time. How can you say Ono’s just your colleague? Even you don’t call him a friend!
And again kamiya didn’t answer Suzumura’s question.
He doesn’t answer to questions about his private life. Then that’s better for us to not be a nosy about him.

      2. Indeed. Kamiya has always been private about his life, so it shouldn’t surprise us that he wants to stay that way. He also alrady said that he want to keep a clear distinction between his work as a public image & his private life. He wants to keep them separately, which is I personally think very admirable when I see a lot of his fellow seiyuu baring their everything on their blogs, Twitter & other social media accounts. Whether the relationship rumour between Ono & Kamiya is real or not, I personally don’t care because both of them are great seiyuu in their own rights. That’s what I care about—their craft as seiyui & not their personal lives. Although I must admit that some tidbits about their personal lives are awesome to hear.

      3. This is reality that Japan is second country in number of gays. Then this isn’t unlikely or ridiculous. Maybe for our country is ridiculous or unlikely but for them isn’t like that. In gintama and samurai Champloo, the author referred to this system and it’s kinda culture. According to Sakurai takahiro, there is some gays in their industry that can’t tell about their orientation just because of their fans. Mostly overseas fans.
About the fact that Japanese aren’t good fans and they make a lot of pressure on their celebrity as we saw for kamiya, overseas fans were like them too. That’s not just for Japanese.
Interesting facts about what happened to kamiya and what was fans reactions, let me tell you that all of them were thinking of kamiya’s cheating on OnoD.
That was their reaction and kamiya answered to Japanese fans reactions not our reaction.
As we are outside of the Japan we can’t decide for them. They are really sensitive on cheating.
Maybe this is unlikely for our country, like my country but for Japan news were something else.
They didn’t even pay attention to Hikaru nakamura as it was real rumors.
These kind of rumors were spread about Nakamura Yuichi and Marina Inoue too. Because of the color of their doors, fans spread that they are married and living together.
Neither of nakamura and Inoue answer the rumors. It means that they are married? Of course not.
These words comes and goes. Like a sentence of Suzuki, Fans just want to make their little world warm by these marriage rumors about their celebrities.
That’s true. We just focus on margins.
If he’s gay, married, divorced, what’s it’s effects on me?
Just wasting time to talk about these. Just it.

      4. Indeed, Japan is pretty open to gays. And of course there will be gays in the seiyuu industry. As long as there are people, there will be gays. And more power to them.
I disagree though that gay seiyuu can’t tell about their sexual orientation because of overseas fans. As Japanese seiyuu, their main concern will always be their Japanese fans. Overseas fans will be secondary to them, although that’s changing, yes. But their Japanese fans still have the most direct influence on them. Besides even if Japan os pretty open to gays, the showbiz industry is pretty rigid and unforgiving. If a popular male idol seiyuu suddenly admits to being gay, there WILL always be a huge commotion, not only among the fans, but also among the management/agencies handling the talents. This is the industry where image is virtually everything. I’m not saying that Japanese fans are not good fans. I’m not saying that at all. I admire the Japanese. I’m just making a general observation about the dynamics of celebrities, their fans, and the celeb’s management. Once the celebs’ image are tarnished, there is always the danger of falling from grace and being turned down for jobs. This kind of situations sounds extreme especially to people in many Western countries where celebrities wanting to become more famous do the most outrageous things just to get attention. Whereas in Asian countries like Japan and Korea, these unnecessary attention are avoided at all costs.
And there will always be people spreading baseless rumours about celebs.

Ahahaha! Well, as a fan of both Kamiya & Ono, of course I would be affected by whatever rumours thrown at them. However, I still put more importance on their work as seiyuu. And of course I would love to hear more about their private lives, that’s natural for a fan, but if they’re not willing to share their personal lives, that’s their right and I respect them for that. Anyway, thanks for dropping by and sharing your opinions about this issue.

  4. In my opinion, I think it’s really none of our business, but I’m going to be a nosy aunt anyway. xD

I personally think that Kamiya is really married or at least the child in the picture is his son. Why? Cause while he did not confirm nor deny anything, he still apologized.
Had he not been married or that kid wasn’t his, I’m sure he will feel a bit less pressured about the whole thing.

As for the whole HiroC x OnoD gay thing, I find it highly unlikely and even ridiculous lol.

    1. I agree that it’s none of our business. It’s just that this whole issue especially this photo scoop got blown out of proportion during the summer.
Well, it seems that nothing is 100% confirmed that he’s married or have kids, but that’s okay. He was already very private before so there’s nothing surprising about his being mum about this.
As for the apology thing, I think it’s a very Japanese thing to do. I think that even if there’s nothing to apologize for, they would still apologize for causing the fans “trouble”. He might have been pressured by his management or just by his fans, even of they weren’t true. Ahahahaha! I know, right? The rumours about HiroC & OnoD being lovers always make me laugh. But regardless of whether this is true or not, I don’t really care because their combi is always awesome and I love listening to the two of them. Anyway, thanks for dropping by and sharing your opinion about this matter.

I don’t accept any of these rumors. Some different words are around this. But as kamiya said himself, he’s same as before. I support him same as before. I support Onomiya same as before cause there’s not anything to make me worry about this.
With things that happened, I assume that shower incident was partly true. According what I see… The picture of that female seiyuu twitter and tweets which fans wrote as a comments of that post.

    1. I agree. He’s the same talented seiyuu. I don’t see any reason why we should focus on his private life when he’s already very adamant that he doesn’t want to share it with the public. I think that we should just focus on his work. He’s very hardworking & professional. Anyway, thanks again. I enjoyed our discussion. Cheers!

About his apology I was searching, there is two kinds of translation….!!
One of them was about apology that you say and other one is his apology for doesn’t have any twitter to answer his fans about rumors and makes them calm!
God…. But I asked my Japanese friend… She told he didn’t apologize for his marriage….
    He didn’t confirm anything….
Because that son and wife rumor was lie…

I don’t know why they even made this rumor….?
There really no difference for me as his fan, that he’s in relationship with Ono or not….
Japanese fans…. I don’t know but if he’s in relationship with Ono, he must keep it as a secret…. Both of them…. I don’t really know the reaction of Japanese fans to this….
    They are under pressure….
Ono was upset, Kamiya was upset…..
That was really bad… I don’t want to hear these rumors again about them….. They want to break them… That’s not fair…

Anyway I’m happy that they are OK now… Same as before…

It’s really good to talk to you…. I can share my opinion to you… It’s really good.. Thank you dear

    1. Yes, you’re right. He apologized in one of the episodes of Dear Girl Stories, but he didn’t confirm anything whether he’s married or had a child. It’s just that this issue got so blown out of proportion that a lot of my fellow Kamiya fans are reacting to it, myself included. I wrote this post in the context that if he’s really married and a father of a child, I would still admire and support him as a seiyuu. My point in writing this post is to show how ridiculous the situation has become, forcing Kamiya to apologize when clearly he doesn’t really have to apologize for anything.

Many fans say that he’s not married or a father, but for me, I wouldn’t be surprised if he is since he’s a very private person. But if not, no harm done. I hope that Kamiya and Ono continue their friendship and entertain us fans for more years to come. Now, if they’re both gay, and I emphasize the “if” here, then fine. That’s their business. And “if” they’re gay lovers, well, some of us fans would be very happy indeed but of course we don’t expect any confirmation about it.

Oh well. This has been a fun discussion. Thank you very much for your time. I appreciate it. Feel free to message me anytime to talk about either Kamiya or Ono. Take care. Cheers!

      1. I see.
So everything is suspicious dear Arria.
For example why that female seiyuu wrote about shower incident and then remove that?
Or one of my friends told me that kamiya’s life isn’t normal so he’s private about that. Maybe he’s really gay. Being with woman is normal. There’s no reason to hide that an pretend to be single.
And one of the interesting comments here was about that photo that photo was taken on winter and after a long time they put it on Flash magazine in summer exactly two weeks after that shower rumor!!!
And recent news about kamiya’s being sick, the first person who was sick, was Ono and after that kamiya. And after his concert he had bad physical condition. According to nakamura tweets one of his fans that Ono is with him, There’s no need to be worry.

Well one of those reporters didn’t see his wife or even his kid when he was in the hospital?
Why photographers weren’t so active about this one?

And always kamiya wants to travel with Ono, in recent episodes of DGS he wanted that again. Well, when you have a wife or kid why you don’t wanna go with them? And you prefer your friend to travel with?
Yasumoto is married and he tweets that he can’t do anything without his wife! Or even suzumura……
Seriously kamiya isn’t liar! I can’t believe that he’s lying because of the money he earns from fujoshis.
        😐😐😐😐😐

      2. I know, right? There’s so many uncertainties regarding these events, even among Japanese fans who are saying different things at the same time, and even moreso for fans like us outside Japan. Well, I’ll assume that you’re outside Japan. As for them getting sick, I think it’s simply a matter of an illness being contagious and passed around between them since they’re the ones who are always working together. I really don’t think anything suspicious about it.

I’m not sure about the female seiyuu who wrote about the incident. I’m thinking perhaps she just heard about it and wrote it on her blog. I doubt that she saw the actual scene herself because if that’s the case, then she would’ve seen Kamiya naked in the shower too. Perhaps representatives of DGS or Kamiya or even Ono talked to her and asked for her to remove the content, assuming that she indeed wrote about it. Even I don’t believe it 100%. But perhaps there’s some truth in it. We don’t know.

And yes, I also find it curious about how the photo shown of him carrying a child was during winter when it was released to the mass media during summer. How odd. I don’t think I would’ve noticed it by myself if ot wasn’t for the observation of other fans.

Oh well. Kamiya doesn’t always lie, but he has quite a cunning personality, I think, that complements Ono’s earnest personality. But that’s one of his charms. He’s also very good at deflecting inquiries about his private life and keeping private things private. We, fans, can keep on speculating about what is actually happening in his private life but given his personality, I don’t think we’ll ever get a clear answer from that’ll satisfy us. But I still get it, and to be honest, it increases the air of mystery surrounding him.

Ahahaha! Well, he does earn a lot from fujoshi(s), I think, since he’s one of the most popular seiyuu who works in the BLCD industry. More power to him.

    1. Shower incident has happened exactly two weeks before this rumor between Ono and HiroC. Japanese fans were telling about this, that sth had happened between those two. The reasons :yagihashi was the first person who was witness of this incident and left the room and tried to scattere reporters away. But one of them wrote this on her twitter account but after 2 hours that account removed.
Two weeks later the rumors of HiroC’s marriage and the kid was spread. But HiroC didn’t answer clearly and said that person was him and he apologized for being that ugly. He explained about make up and these things never talked about that kid.
I sent an email to DGS and asked about these.
He answered :this is my job. I can’t explain anymore. I said everything on dgs. Thanks for supporting me.

This letter was same for my friends and I.

And now he’s sick. I don’t know what to say.
Just all I can say is this :Aoni is behind of all of these. For protection or something else, I don’t really know. But Japanese fans are telling that he wants to quit and leave Aoni. That’s better for him.

    2. Hi Ms Little Bonnie,
The Shower Incident is when OnoD allegedly entered a dressing room at Saitama Arena during the DGS 10th anniversary and he saw Kamiya naked taking a shower. I’m not sure if this 100% true or not, but it was said that another female seiyuu wrote about this on her blog telling what happened, and that was how fans became aware of this incident. However, the alleged post was said to be taken down so we don’t know if it’s really true. But it certainly feeds the imagination of fans. I personally think it hilarious. That’s why a lot of fans are speculating that this Kamiya carrying a child issue is a cover-up for the shower incident to prove that he’s a straight guy who is more than capable of fathering a child and not a gay one who lets his male colleagues walk into him naked while showering.

        Hi dear Aria
That shower incident is soooooooo suspicious!!
Why they removed that tweet? Was there really something?
Of course there was something! It seems that there is something.
You know Kamiya’s company has some conditions.
One of them is that if the voice actor is gay or other orientations that must be a secret and private.
If Kamiya is gay, he would be under a a lot of pressure!
And also Ono and Kamiya’s marriage rumors on 2011,they cover up that with a marriage of Ono with Tanni Asuka!

I’m really suspicious. In my opinion there is something strange!
        Anyway thankyou dear Aria

      2. Hello! To be honest, I’m not even sure if the shower incident really happened. We have no actual photo to be presented as evidence of the incident. Even I’m not sure about this post about Kamiya having a son and wife, but for the sake of his apology, I’ll assume that it might be true. I don’t know. These issues, the shower incident and the child photo scandal, certainly fed the speculations among us fans.

As for the blog post, I heard a rumour that it was a female seiyuu who attended the DGS Expo and wrote about her experiences in her blog. In that said blog post, she allegedly claims that OnoD walked into HiroC naked while HiroC was showering. After it caught the attention of some fans, she allegedly took that part about the shower down and it’s nowhere to be seen in her blog. I personally didn’t see this said blog post. I only heard the rumours.

The rumours about Ono and Kamiya being married are just hilarious! Nobody can deny that they’re very close. And if every the two of them are gay, I don’t have any problems with a romantic relationship between them, but I can’t say the same thing for their Japanese fans.

Everything about this situation is strange. I’m just glad that both Ono & Kamiya are already renowned and bankable seiyuu, so their reputations are stronger when facing these kinds of issues. And you’re very welcome. Thank you very much for dropping by and sharing your thoughts in this matter with me. Take care. Cheers!

  7. I think it’s really interesting that there’s this weird worship-hate culture that seems to exist in some Asian cultures. I’m saying this as someone with an interest in K-Pop; a lot of the fans have strong idolisation for their favourite stars, but turn their backs on them the second any kind of dating rumours surface. I didn’t realise the same sort of thing existed in Japan, and it makes me wonder if it’s something that’s arisen from culture? I mean, western media has its fair share of crazy-fans, but I’m yet to see anything along the same lines as this time of fandom; it seems to be fairly distinct and unique to select cultures. Interesting.

But I agree with you 100% on the apology. It’s ridiculous for someone to have to apologise for, you know, living their lives? Poor guy. Like you said, I hope he finds a way to turn it in his favour!

    Like

    1. I agree with your idea that this might be a distinct characteristic based on culture. I just think that there’s still this belief in these select Asian countries that the celebrities should present themselves as pure and set their standards very high. One of the commenters observed that it seems that people who want to be celebrities in these countries are similar to those who are entering priesthood.

I know, right? This whole issue is ridiculous. There are a lot of fans saying that this is engineered by Kamiya’s management agency, and I’m not going to deny it because it might be true. We never know. Well, from the looks of things, it seems that he’s now doing alright. It helps that he’s one of the veterans now in the industry and one of the most bankable. If this same situation happened to a newer voice actor, I don’t think that person would survive as well as Kamiya. On the same note, if this was to happen to a voice actress, it would probably be disastrous. Sas but true. Anyway, thanks for dropping by & sharing your opinion. Cheers!

  8. Good Article
But I think Shower incident is still in a darkness!
    I don’t know why!
2 weeks later :kamiya Hiroshi is married and has a 4 years old kid!
Yagihashi was the first person who saw shower incident when he entered the room without knowing anything!
Then he left DGS for studying!
    Nice lying!!!
Anyway Kamiya Hiroshi is my favorite seiyuu and I don’t want his sad face because I’m leaving with his smile
    I love his smile!

    1. Ahaha! The shower incident never fails to make laugh. I love it! Whether it’s true or not, I don’t care but it certainly feeds our imaginations and is always a good topic for speculations. Well, if this recent issue of him being married and having a kid is a cover-up for that incident, then it’s certainly working since it got blown out of proportion. We may never know everything that really happened, but that’s okay for me because we already know that Kamiya is a very private person.

Oh my gosh! This is literally the first time I’ve heard that Yagihashi left DGS? Nooooooooo!!!!! I’m so behind. Gotta keep up-to-date.

      1. Yes yagihashi left DGS for studyin.
And he’s 30 years old and wants to study.
        After he saw the reality.
This is clear that Aoni made that.
If Ono was still in mosu, these rumors would be behind him not Kamiya san!
And Ono isn’t secretive about his life because he said he’ll tell if he got married.
He wanted this from Kamiya san too!
Kamiya san didn’t tell anything then he’s not married.
As he said he’s same Kamiya Hiroshi!
He confirmed that man is himself but he didn’t confirm that kid is mine.
He could tell that in front of OnoD cause OnoD told him say it if u get married. Your fans and I get really happy when we hear it from yourself.
Aoni was successful and I clap for that.
Fans in Japan are still support them.

      2. Oooooh. Thanks for the information. I hope that we hear again from Yagihashi in the future and that him leaving is just temporary. He has been such a big part of DGS. Well, if that’s the case, Aoni really protects Kamiya although I’m not too happy that he was forced to apologize on-air regardless of whether these issues are true or not. As for Ono, even from the start, he was already more open about his life than Kamiya. Kamiya chooses the things he shares about his private life very carefully.

      3. And also that photo was taken on winter right? And which year we don’t know about it.
But that person who took that photo could put it on that magazine in that time but that person didn’t do that.
Exactly two weeks after that incident, that person remembered that oh I had that photo! Let’s put it somewhere! For example porn magazine!
Fans aren’t stupid. This isn’t kamiya’s fault. He was forced to do sth like this!

      4. Interesting. Great observation. If that theory is correct, then it must mean that someone has this on-file in case Kamiya become embroiled in a scandalous incident. Well, most of his fans aren’t stupid except all those who are reselling their Kamiya goods online.

  9. You know what? It was something that Aoni wanted from the first….. These news were exactly after Kamiya Hiroshi and Ono Daisuke shower incident……! And then they tried to delete that news and cover that with it!
Japanese fans don’t think like foreigners because right now I’m there and the problems were sth other than these….. If kamiya Hiroshi was married, he would tell that directly because Ono told him that he would be happy if he hear that…… So he’s not married and he didn’t answer clearly….. If he tell that he’s not married then fans will ask who’s that kid for sure….. So he did well and his decision was right about not telling anything!
There were a lot rumors about Kamiya before this too…. So this isn’t new one!

    Liked by 1 person

    1. Many people certainly think that way, and it makes sense in way, but since I don’t know for certain what the bigwigs from Aoni are thinking, I don’t want to put much stock in this theory. And about that shower incident, if it’s true, then it’s true. I would certainly be laughing about that. I find it more comical than scandalous, unlike what others think but that’s only because I’m not Japanese. And I agree with you that Japanese fans don’t think like foreigners, that’s why bloggers like me have a field day writing about how they react when they’re favourite idols are thrown into scandals and comparing them to identical situations here in the West.

I honestly don’t care if he’s married, has a child, or if even if he’s in that kind of relationship with OnoD. Yes, he didn’t divulged much during his apology on DGS but based on how he said it, I can only assume that the child is his. If not, it doesn’t really change anything for me. Even before all of these marriage rumours started years before, I didn’t care that much. These rumours come and go, but I think that this is the first time that it took centre stage with it trending on social media and such. Anyway, thanks for dropping by and sharing your views about this matter with me. I appreciate it. Cheers!

But this is good that the rumors are fading away…..
This is really good for kamiya san himself….
OnoD and HiroC are really really best human that I’ve seen…..
This rumors had a lot of bad effects on OnoD too…. Because he told if kamiya san doesn’t want to continue his job I will quit too….
And about Aoni, it did a worst thing to kamiya san….. Because it entered his private life again….. He is with Ono Daisuke or someone else or divorced, Aoni entered his private life and this is Disrespect to kamiya san and also his fans……

      2. Oh my gosh. I know, right? I feel you right there. It certainly feeds our fantasies of that was the case. In fact, I would be happier and more accepting of HiroC & OnoD are together but I won’t put my hopes too high. Indeed. It’s good that the issue is dying down slowly. At least it got publicity for Kamiya even if it’s bad.

I know, right? They’re so sweet. They’re always together and their friendship is so touching. It always excites me whenever both of them are cast in the same series. I love hearing both of them together.

Oh well. I think that Aoni has done a great job in nurturing Kamiya. But if all else fails, he can just follow OnoD and become a freelancer or they could create their own agency with just the two of them like Namikawa Daisuke and Kirihara Tetsuya.

  10. Oh gosh, he’s married?? I’m so happy for him! And he even has a son already. I was a bit… worried, since he’s already over fourty years old and there were still no words about someone in his life.
But it’s good he finally found someone.
I’m really someone who feels happy her favorite artists find someone.
I’m not a KPOP fan anymore, but I still love one band there. Back then the “fans” were angry at them for having girlfriends too. But they quickly put the fans into their place (I so respect them for that. They were NOT scared of their fans. They told them off when they felt they were right!)
Now they’re thirty years old and when a moderator asked them if they had a few relationships, they all answered “Yes,of course. It’d be weird if not, we’re 30 y.o. afterall. But I regret having had a relationship open in the public. I’ll only do that now, when I know the relationship is going to work”
Since one of the ex-girlfriends talked bad about one of them to the media, he regretted telling the public about their relationship.
No,they shouldn’t apologize and ESPECIALLY not when they’re already over 40 years old…. A German moderator/comedian was married and had children and NO ONE knew what they even looked like. And that’s something one should respect, no matter how curious. It makes me scared and nervous how people get death threats over something like this! People nowadays are quick to threaten others.

    1. It’s been a while! Thank you very much for dropping by. I’m delighted to hear from you again. Well, I assume that he’s married and that the child he’s carrying is his child based on the apology he said at DGS. I know, right? He shouldn’t have had to apologize for having a family since he’s already in his middle age. Ahahaha! You said it right! I was a bit worried too that he’s going to stay a bachelor all his life. Well, other fans are speculating that this issue was only blown out of proportion to overshadow the “shower incident” one during the 10th year anniversary of DGS where OnoD allegedly walked in on a naked HiroC while the latter was showering. But that’s only speculations, so I don’t want to take too much stock on that.
Anyway, I completely get what you’re trying to say with your Korean & German celebrity examples. That German comedian is awesome if he successfully shielded his private life. Good for him.

Kamiya didn’t tell anything about his private life on DGS episode 484. Just he said yes! That person is me!
    1_do we know he’s married?
    2_do we know he’s divorced?
3_do we know that kid is for himself?
A lot of theories :Kamiya was married to Ono and adopted a kid, kamiya was married to a women and has a kid, Kamiya’s brother died on 2011 Japan earthquake and that kid is for his brother…..
But really! Is it important for us that kamiya is gay, bi, straight???? Would we really want go to marry with him if he wasn’t gay, bi, straight marriage?
He doesn’t want us to interfere in his private life! And he even told this on DGS!
    That none of our business….
I, myself support him cuz of his brilliant works not for his private life….. That’s my opinion

    1. First of all, I didn’t say anything about any press conference in this post. I know that he didn’t do it since he’s very private. Well, the way he apologized in DGS, he said it in a way that yes the kid is his. Whether this is true or not, I honestly don’t care like you since I admire him as a seiyuu and not because I care that much about his private life. That’s the point of this post, and I’m glad that many of you commenters agree with me. It’s such a shame that a lot of his so-called fans are abandoning him just because of something like this. Besides it’s understandable since Kamiya is one of their most bankable talents. They would do everything to protect their reputation. Stupid things like Sato Takeru helping a drunk female friend home, or merely one of them hanging out with friends, paps only cover for the sake of gossip and money. There is also a reason i dislike johnies and akb’s styles of marketing.

  13. This is so bizarre … aside from the comments already made (and my word they’re right, this whole thing is both ludicrously unfair and outright ridiculous), it’s a strange thing to see when compared to the West. I mean, with the rise of reality TV in the UK, z-list celebrities seem to almost be encouraged to create scandal at times, and when they do, it’s a lot bigger than ‘having a family’. I swear that most of them don’t apologise either, even when it would be justified to do so.
Fair play to him for attempting to have some privacy. I think Chow Yun-Fat attempted a similar personal/public separation some years ago.

    1. Yes, good observation. Celebs in the West are often encouraged to create scandals because then they’ll have the limelight until the next scandal ousts them out. It’s here that bad publicity is good publicity is born. Very different in Japan where bad publicity remains bad publicity and must be avoided at all costs or else you risk losing a profitable career.

  14. Thank you very much for making this post, I’m so glad there are people who think like this. While I truly love Japan and its culture, these type of things always rub me the wrong way. There’s a lot of unfairness towards japanese idols and seiyuu, especially women. I just don’t get what’s so “horrible” about having a family or even dating someone you love (I remember the Hirano Aya “scandal” too and was horrified by the fans). If someone should be “ashamed” it’s those suppossed fans. Idols and seiyuu may be famous but they’re just as much people as any other and deserve to be treated with equal respect and not put on a pedestal as if they were gods; nor be treated like shit when they don’t meet these “fans’s” expectations. Seriously, they need to grow the hell up. This is where I would say to those people: “What are you, five?!” I mean, COME ON, why the heck do they need permission to LIVE? This really reminds me of the manga Bakuman, I don’t know if you read it but there’s an arc in the story (the final arc if I’m not mistaken) where there’s a scandal because the protagonist (a mangaka) is dating a seiyuu who’s seen as this “pure figure” instead of a real person. Sigh, welp, I guess we’ll never understand these type of people. Surely, they don’t have anything better to do with their lives so they just hate on their idols whenever it’s shown they’re not perfect…so sad.

    Liked by 1 person

    1. Preach it, sister! Thank you for that wonderful comment. And speaking of “Bakuman”, it’s probably my #2 most favourite series ever. Anyway, you’re very right. One of our friends who commented here said that it seems Japanese showbiz is like priesthood. I mean, these people are expected to be pure. . .especially if that’s the character they’re selling. And I think that what most of us agree with is the ridiculous overreaction of the Japanese mass and media whenever one of their celebs are tainted by any “scandal”. In Hollywood, bad publicity is good publicity but in Japan, it seems that bad publicity is the end of a bankable career because the talent will now be subjected to discrimination not only by the mass and media but also by the people who give him/her work. It’s so sad that they’re system is like this, when they have many entertaining and great shows from anime, to drama to variety shows. Anyway, thank you very much for dropping by and sharing your thoughts about this matter. Take care. Cheers!

Everything I feel and felt, even tho I’m not his fan (or anyone’s beside Maaya Sakamoto), I still enjoy his work and realise it’s work. I actually really hate the idol-type thing, because I find it so ridiculous to make them out as “our” boyfriend or the “fans”, plus the policies are ridiculous. I think their industry should match Wests just in this aspect, because this is ridiculous. Asian showbiz is ruthless in this regard 😤
If someone stops being a fan because the person whose work they like (I refuse to say idol, because it’s their work and their public image they like, not the person themselves really) turns out to be gay/married/or whatever else, then they’re not actually fans for the work, but for a mirage.
I think it’s pretty gross they got such a shock just because he’s private, he has a right to his privacy and only sharing what he wants. He isn’t forced to share anything aside his work ffs!

  17. It does seem crazy that having a wife and child would be considered a “scandal.” The no-dating policies for Asian idols kinda make sense when they’re teenagers, but seem really impractical for adults…it’s very strange for us Americans to see grown adults apologize for simply living their lives. It must be hard for celebrities to not be able to separate personal and professional lives!

    Liked by 1 person

    1. Exactly! Preach it, sister! Indeed, it makes sense for teenagers because well. . . .teens are mostly driven by hormones so this kind of policy enforces some kind of control. ..but for adults, it’s ridiculous. I don’t think Kamiya Hiroshi is held under a legal no-dating policy. It’s only some of his fans and the media who were implying that he somehow “betrayed” their trust for not announcing his marriage when it happened and sharing the birth of his child. I mean, this man is known for his privacy so get a grip of yourselves, people. Some people just want to keep their personal lives private even if they’re celebs. I guess there are just fans who don’t get it. I know, right? This issue is ridiculous for us non-Japanese.

  18. It’s a shame he was ‘forced’ to reveal details of his personal life at all. I really respect celebrities who can compartmentalize and stay out of the drama factory that is the tabloids. Not to mention, we’re talking about a baby here—it may be hard to believe in this culture of oversharing that social media has introduced, but there DO exist people who don’t want to publicize a child’s face. I admire Kamiya for trying to maintain some privacy for his family. Sucks that so many people had to be high schoolers about it. The internet just hates happiness I guess.

    1. Kamiya Hiroshi is known for his privacy. As response to this issue, he tried to explain that he prefers to keep his working life and private life separate. Not many celebrities are able to do that. Many of his seiyuu colleagues are very active on social media, sharing everything they’re doing on their blogs. Unlike them, Kamiya doesn’t have any social media accounts that he updates himself. And like you I respect him for that. It’s just that some of his so-called “fans” took it as a slight to their trust that he didn’t announce his marriage and fatherhood, so they blew everything out of proportion. The press didn’t help either, so he was unfortunately forced to apologize which I think is very ridiculous.

  19. I find this really stupid as to why idols or celebrities can’t get married, it’s right to do so. Also I too will be disappointed as to how come he didn’t share this to the public but doesn’t mean that they won’t support him

    1. Many talent agencies, especially the ones catering to idols, have no-dating policies. I think once a talent “graduates” from being an idol, then they can date, not 100% sure. However, if they are still contracted and held by that no-dating policy, then their careers will be put in jeopardy. However, I don’t think Kamiya Hiroshi is held by this kind of no-dating policy by his management. It’s only the press and the fans who blew this issue out of proportions. Since he’s a celebrity, people expect that he’s public property including his personal life so when he keeps his marriage and fatherhood a secret, some fans took this as a slight to their trust and end up bashing him. How ridiculous. Anyway, thanks for dropping by and sharing your opinions about this matter. I really appreciate it. Take care. Cheers!

I can understand idols taking a hit in popularity if people learned the celeb was like violent or does drugs or something, but they shouldn’t be raked over the coals for trying to find and/or successfully finding someone to spend their life with.

  21. Strange to see celebrity status have such an opposite effect on someone’s personal life relative to how things are here in the U.S. It’s a similar level of visibility and interest in their personal lives, but almost a complete 180 in terms of how people react to them. Here in the U.S. scandalous events with celebrities involve comments like “Oh powerful rich people, you so silly!” It seems like in Japan being an idol is more like being a part of a pop-culture priesthood.

    Liked by 1 person

    1. Priesthood. . .Pfff! Oh my gosh. That comment made me laugh. . .but it’s so appropriate to the whole situation. They obviously weren’t very good fans. I mean, he’s had a family for a while now and he still does great work, what changed? Nothing.

It’s just that the fans-turned-haters are more visible because they were all over the web reselling their Kamiya Hiroshi goods. Not to mention those people who loves to gossip and speculate that he wouldn’t get roles anymore in BLCD’s or video games. He’s a great seiyuu and very hard-working and just like you said, he’s had a family for awhile now and he still does great work. These people are just so selfish, thinking that they own a public figure like him. Well, Miyano Mamoru married and had a child and look how successful her remains. It’s just that he announced it when it happened. Unlike Kamiya who kept it a secret, many of his so-called fans felt slighted that he didn’t “trust” them enough announce his marriage or the birth of his son. I’m like, so what? People are different. There are people who value their privacy above all else, even if they’re celebrities. To be honest, Japan holds an impossible standard for their celebrities that they be mostly pure. Same thing applies to Kamiyan I am sure.

      2. I think the main problem in HiroC’s case is that he kept his marriage and the birth of his child secret. Many fans felt slighted that he didn’t share this important news to them. Look at Miyano Mamoru, he’s married and has a family of his own but he’s still very successful and the news off his marriage didn’t got blown out of proportion unlike HiroC’s. It’s because Miyano announced his marriage when it happened, just like the other ones but HiroC didn’t. HiroC is such a private person, so I totally understand why he didn’t share his marriage. His other so-called “fans” didn’t want to understand it, I guess. Fortunately, he still has many loyal fans and I love interacting with them. I unfollowed the ones who were reselling their Kamiya goods on Twitter. Anyway, thanks for dropping by and sharing your views about this issue. I appreciate it.

    1. Mostly in the idol industry. I read one idol who got sued by her own agency and demanded that she paid money because she violated their policy that she doesn’t date anyone while working for them. Isn’t that nuts?
