Absolutely! I love watching Japanese variety shows. I watch them at least once a week. They’re awesome in improving your proficiency in Japanese and in keeping updated with the currently popular celebrities and TV personalities, trends and events in Japan. There are some full episodes available on Youtube, but what I usually do is watch via GYAO! by Yahoo Japan.
Some of my favourite variety shows include:
I like funny shows, but I like shows that impart knowledge even more. How about you? Do you watch Japanese variety shows?

I usually don’t watch them, but I have some friends who are real fans of Batsu Game (Japanese Punishment Games). So while hanging out with them I’ve watched a little bit and it can be pretty funny some times.

I’m a big fan of the batsu games, as well. I didn’t include them here, because I only like the 6-hours new year specials once a year. They’re so funny that even my dad watches them, even if he doesn’t understand the language.

I watch Shabekuri007 on occasion, but only the episodes where the guests are personalities I’m familiar with (who’re mostly dorama actors and actresses).

Nice! I also watch Shabekuri007, but I find that I’m not very interested in celeb’s personal lives. Although like you, I can’t help but feel curious when the guests are personalities that I like. I love the episodes featuring Nakama Yukie, GACKT, Becky, and Tom Cruise & Cameron Diaz.

I’m mostly in it for the kontos than the actor/actress probe, but yeah. definitely can’t help but feel curious — especially for personalities that I really like. Ooh, the Tom Cruise/Cameron Diaz episode was pretty neat. My favorite ones are those that starred Kitagawa Keiko (just good funny chemistry with the Shabekuri guys) and Nagasawa Masami (huge fan of hers) 😀

I know, right? Cameron was very sweet during that episode. It was also quite funny how surprised & amazed the cast were when Tom & Cameron came out. Oooooh. I watched that episode of Kitagawa Keiko. What other variety shows do you watch?

I love how the crowd (and even the Shabekuri guys! lol) went nuts for almost a whole minute xD
Let’s see.. Oh, I like to catch Domoto Kyoudai eps of musicians/singers/idols etc. that I follow

I know, right? They’re always so funny. It’s been awhile since I watched Shabekuri. I usually watch the ones I listed above. And recently I’m gettin into The Friday. Oh! I don’t believe I’ve watched any Domoto Kyoudai before.

Haven’t watched much recently myself, (mostly because I just tend to watch them wherever, lol) I don’t think I’ve heard of that one.
I don’t think they make new eps anymore (sad), but yeah, Domoto Kyoudai is basically a variety show hosted by musicians that have other musicians as their guests. My favorite thing that they do is that by the end the host and the guest/s do an ensemble performance of one of the guests’ songs.

I usually just watch short youtube clips or watched them at my society. They are not my prority.

What do you mean by your “society”? You mean like an anime club? Ahaha. I understand. For me, anime and manga are my priority, especially as a blogger. However, I make it a point to watch variety shows at least once a week, so I won’t forget my Japanese. They’re really helpful, to be honest.

Yes, I am part of an Anime and Manga society at my University. I totally feel the same.or me, anime and manga are my priority, especially after I started this blog. My studies are my main priority, but I try to make time for my otaku hobbies. I watch a lot of DC and Marvel TV shows too.

Cool. Of course. Studies should be the first priority. Do your best!

I usually just check out clips that people upload featuring some of my favorite talent. First variety show I really started watching was those Downtown punishment games. Even got my dad to watch some of those!

Ahahaha! I love those. I didn’t include the batsu games in the list because I usually just watch them once a year when they do those 6-hour long New Specials. Same here! My dad loves watching those batsu games, too.
