A Brief History of my Journey From Book Reviewer to Aniblogger

I’ve only been an aniblogger for 2 years now, but I’ve been blogging on and off since I was a teenager.  When I started university, I became a book review blogger for a few years.  It was a very exciting time.  I loved being in direct contact with published authors, agents and publishers.  I used a different name back then, so you won’t find a trace of my past as a book reviewer under the name Arria Cross.  Back then I showed my face on the Internet as a book reviewer because I thought it would be more professional that way.  Long story short, it wasn’t the wisest thing to do.  I attracted creeps who forced me to delete almost all my online accounts and start anew—PRIVATELY.  That’s why I refuse to show my face now to the web without good reason.

Hilariously Violent Battle of the Sexes in「Popular Hits of the Showa Era」 by Ryu Murakami

Popular Hits of the Showa Era (昭和歌謡大全集 / Shōwa Kayō Daizenshū) is the first book that I’ve read by Ryu Murakami (村上 龍 / Murakami Ryū). It’s quite interesting how I discovered this book. I was originally looking for additional novels to read by my #1 favourite Japanese author, Haruki Murakami, and I grabbed this book by mistake because it was beside Haruki Murakami’s books on the shelf.  It was only later that I realized the book was written by another Murakami.  No wonder it’s so short!  But being the voracious reader that I am, I just shrugged my shoulders and read the book, even if it wasn’t written by Haruki Murakami but by Ryu Murakami.

「I Am a Cat」is My Favourite Work of Sōseki Natsume

For these past few weeks, I’ve been reading a lot of books by Sōseki Natsume (夏目 漱石 / Natsume Sōseki), who is often considered as the greatest writer in modern Japanese history.  I don’t know much about him besides the brief biographical notes included in his books, but it seems to me that his scholarly life and the period in which he lived, Meiji Period, greatly influenced his works.

My favourite work of his that I’ve read so far is I Am a Cat ( 吾輩は猫である / Wagahai wa Neko de Aru).  It’s translated in English by Aiko Ito and Graeme Wilson.
